It bugs me when people like Janet Mock and Laverne Cox, who sell books and act respectively, get all the media attention.

Keisling is a true spokesperson and activist. I'm glad she's finally getting some press.

You shouldn't have to out yourself by showing your ID card that lists your sex which could accompany a chance of discrimination, violence, and so on.

^ I SOOO agree with that! I went to get my ears pierced 2 months ago, after waiting for like a quarter of a year for them to get those particular ear rings in, I left my ID at home because it would out me and didn't think I needed it anyway. I shaved myself real good, put on a dress and some lip stick and brought my purse with me, I even used my female voice too. When I got there, had to wait around, risked making it to an appointment (It all worked out with said appointment but I was pushing it/myself) and finally, before anything else could be done, I was asked to sign a waver form if something went wrong they aren't responsible, (Ok I'l just sign with my gender neutral name I said) but then she asked to see my ID and I told her, I didn't have it with me, she then said to me "If you don't have it, I can't pierce your ears" and I left without them pierced, and upset/mad at the world and even woman born with a female body. So, do you think I ever got them pierced? NOPE! Why? Because of the ID outing me and how this world is filled with such dang discrimination! >:(

Seriously.

My current ID is f***ing USELESS.  It literally shows a fat guy with a full beard and almost nobody believes it's me.  The only good thing is that I definitely look of age and don't need it much.   When people ask me for it, I can usually tell if it's just to bust my balls (so to speak) so they can see if I'm really more like a "Jack".  Sometimes when I get carded by a*holes, I just walk out and give the finger.  I've learned some strategies to keep it away from prying eyes.  The DL I use in front is very old, and shows a pic of me when I was 23, clean shaven and look plausibly female.   I put a fortune cookie fortune strategically over the name and gender marker that leaves only the DOB visible to prying eyes.  Words just can't describe how much I can't wait to get my new one in a few weeks.

well, that's a cool idea and glad you're getting yours soon. Mine, I only have a state ID, no DL and the state ID has a signature of my name somewhat on my pic, then above and to the right again a print of my name, and below that at the bottom (So the DOB is in between the two) has my sex listed. -_- So a fortune cookie wouldn't work and besides, the ID is old and outdated just like yours. I look hardly anything like the old me in that pic, has the wrong address on it and name too. (Though I've yet to change my name) I am hoping within the next 6 months max I can get it changed but really within the next 3 months if I can help it.
