well i'm stuck. if i let my hair grow, i'll achieve to semi andro look but when i look at myself, my face with my hair as it is makes me look feminine so i'm contemplating cutting my hair but i cant seem to work up the nerve to go to the barber shop and get it cut.

If you are going for andro you could always pull your hair back in a low ponytail when you want to present more M than F?

Or you could find a short haircut that works for you.

As for motivating yourself HAHA, I want that super power :]

I always get this way! I claim I'll let it grow out or get it cut at a real salon but then I always get bored and end up hacking it away on my own at home. I would suggest letting it grow out a bit more, there is always time for a haircut in the future. If it ever gets to a point you really don't like, you could easily cut it. :)

no i mean i'm going for my usual short hair cut. i just cant seem to work up the nerve. i always walk past the shop but i always run away. at this point, i'm making my way down the de-transition ladder though i have to let my therapist know even though he may say just go for the transition and see how i feel before i make this decision.

Ooh, I didn't realize you were wanting to detransition. Hopefully you find out what is right for you. :) goodluck

idk. i spent 5 months growing at my hair and it just now got past 2 inches so i let it grow out, it'l traumatize me, if i cut it than i can go on but i would still feel guilty.

Have you thought of a mix of long and short?

For example, I love wearing my hair long in the front and side-bangs and having it short at the back. Think scene or emo hairstyles.

My dysphoria is a funny little thing - it explodes through the roof when the hairdresser trims too much at the front and whenever it grows out too long at the back.

I cope very badly with hairdressers as it is, the entire experience is overwhelming because A) I dislike people being in my personal space and B) I have to trust the hairdresser to cut my hair properly.

The fact that you have run away from idea of walking to the salon and having your hair cut short is telling most of all.

Listen to your body and heart deep within - only you know what you truly want. Forget about everyone and everything else - don't give up on achieving who you are and more importantly, don't force yourself to be who you are not. Denial is a nasty beast and it will only be a matter of time before you will be back where you started.

It will take some time to figure out which hairstyle that you will be most comfortable with - as I've said before, wigs aren't a bad way to go about experimenting different styles of hair on yourself (it's how I figured out my current hairstyle that makes me happy overall) to see what you do or don't like. :)

NOOOO. Don't cut it. If you think you will feel guilty just think of after cutting the guilt. You can be a guy with long hair. And five moths invested already. You can always cut it later if you decide.

I presented as male for about five years of my life with hair down past my waist. Hair length is overrated as an indicator of gender IMHO. It's much more in the shape and style of the hair than the length.

Well that's up to you, do you want to get the andro look or not? If you are detransitioning and want to present as a male and feel like your hair is going to stop you from doing that, then you can cut them off, but if you want to try transition then just don't... 2 inches isn't really long I know of guys with longer hair that can pass as males...
