Hello Riot Wild,
I was moved by your narrative. I'm glad that your mother was as supportive of you as she was. I do, however, want to express my sincerest disagreement with what your father seems to believe in: Gay people SHOULD be allowed to marry, and should obviously be allowed to live like everyone else. It aggravates me to no end when gays are denied such basic human rights -- some of the religious passages cited to halt gay rights are the same passages cited in the 1950s and 1960s to deny African-Americans their rights.
I know it can be discouraging at times to have such closed-minded family -- my family, too, is very closed-minded. Just keep your head up. The Millennial Generation is the most socially liberal bunch to-date, and this spells a bright future for the LGBT community, in my opinion. I wish you and your partner the best of luck on your endeavors.
