So I've been on other forums before that have this special option set as defult, and I was wondering if it exists on this site, because I'm not sure how to do it.
But what it is is you get a notification whenever someone quotes you. I know you can set it up so you get notified whenever someone posts on a topic, but if I just wanted to be alerted just once in a topic if someone quoted me, how do I do that if possible, so I don't have to keep checking and refreshing a page. If that doesn't exist, it totally should, because it's so helpful. Doesn't have to even be an email notification. Perhaps just on your profile it says you got quoted or something.

I honestly don't know that one and haven't seen it as an option. I haven't really looked much as it is  something I would gladly not have, but I will look into it a bit more for you.

Thanks. If you don't end up adding it, I understand, but just thought I would say it. Wouldn't need to be a facy system thing. Just a little notify that I thought could be useful.

Ok, it really isn't available and not real likely in the future. It was worth asking about anyway.

That could be neat for some people. I don't know a thing about coding but hopefully it could be available here someday.

Yeah. The site who had this had just a little notification button that was on the top bar and whenever someone you were following updated their status, or you get quoted, it will alert you, plus a link to it. It probably does have a bigger server too though.

It's possible if there is a plugin but I don't have the authority to install them.

Even if it were a feature to be added I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work half the time because a lot of the "quotes" aren't done correctly. Either people delete part of the HTML quote tag on accident or they don't actually use the quote feature, instead pasting copied text in quote tags, thus not linking the comment to the author. (I actually see that happen a lot, and often have to go back a page or to so I can figure out who was being quoted)

True, but if one were to do that, then that would be their own fault that they didn't get a notification to that person. And it actually doesn't hurt it if you shorten the quote a little, just as long as you properly do hit the quote button.

there is an option for this if you have a smartphone - its an app called tapatalk.

unfortunately, it has some issues going to the actual thread where the post was quoted, in my experience. but you can always look at the "participated" section which is just like the list you get when you click "show new replies" here.

and it still gives you a little notification on your phone when your quoted, and you can see by whom and i think a bit of info on the post/thread.

its a free app.  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quoord.tapatalkpro.activity&hl=en
