So people on this forum say it can sometimes take 2 years or more for HRT to make you pass and sometimes it never happens.

Most of the transition videos I saw on YouTube, the person passes within 6 months or doesn't pass at all. This is kind of discouraging to me since I'm 6 months into my HRT and my face still looks male.

Can anyone link me a transition video that took 2 years to pass as female?

Just an observation, but a lot of those YT videos are made by quite young transitioners being in the end of their teens or beginning of 20-ties, plus they provide their best shots angle/lighting-vise. I am quite sure for each shot they include in their time-line, there were 20+ which were discarded.  Plus, makeup and hair do make a lot of difference.
When I was 6 months into HRT, I still looked as my previous self, only a bit softer, but unmistakably male. Things only started to happen - randomly - around 9-10 months, and even now, if needed, I can pass a guy quite easily, though for the first glance people sometimes gender me as a girl.

^This.

Under the right lighting and makeup, anyone can look beautiful.  Look further around on YouTube and there are some pretty good examples of people doing stuff to make you go WTH.

HRT has limitations.  Learning to work with what you have and flattering them goes a long way.

It took me two years to get comfortable enough with myself to start saying I pass

not a video, but a picture

Really, no matter what you look like, if you think you look male, you will look male to yourself in the mirror.

I see a girl in your profile picture, but if you don't see any difference, why not try to change up your hairstyle, makeup, etc? I know getting bangs really helped my dysphoria.

OP, I call shenanigans on that.

People who post Youtube transition videos and did start passing within 6 months almost all started with full heads of hair, feminine faces, and slight builds.

Take a look at some people who were bigger, and you'll see that hormones take WAY longer for those of us who aren't as biologically blessed.

I made it all the way to ELEVEN months on HRT without ever having been gendered female, not even once. And trust me, I was getting COMPLETELY depressed at that point, feeling like I'd never make it, crying myself to sleep at night because every single one of my trans friends had made it already and was full-time and passable already while I was still stuck back at the very beginning. I finally got my first "miss" about two weeks before my year on HRT mark. It took about another 3 months after that before I was starting to "male fail" and get gendered female sometimes even in my male work uniform. After getting fired from that job 14 months into hormones, I started presenting as female full-time, and since then I've only been gendered male ONCE.

Be patient. It takes time.

I don't have a recent "transition timeline" video, (I haven't done one since the 6-month mark,) but you can definitely watch my videos and see the progression. Here's my channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/cheetaking243/videos

And now, here is an official transition timeline from someone who was just as masculine as I was pre-transition. This should be definitive proof that it can take a lot of time to make it, especially for those of us who had a lot of male features working against us.

Here's Aztoreth Blemuz, and her first 18 months of transition. As you can see, she wasn't completely passing yet even at 18 months. She'd just reached "andro mode" where she was very in-between.

And then here's her "continuation" video where she shows what happened from 1.5 years on HRT to 3.5 years on HRT. And again, she went from looking androgynous at 18 months to being a complete knockout by 3 years on HRT. Point being, give it time. It takes a long time for a lot of us.

Thank you, Carrie! Your post helped me a lot. It's one thing when people tell you something, and it's another thing when they show you. :) <3 <3 <3

Great videos that You posted, Carrie! Quite inspiring, yet... if the way she looked at 18 months is andro then... dunno what to say.. she looked gorgeous at 18 months already. Nope, no way that could be andro look.

Also, another thing to remember, a lot of the time in transition timelines, people are showing their best pictures from the most flattering angles, with makeup on, and it doesn't show their voice or their mannerisms. And those things can make a HUGE difference. Someone may indeed look more female than male in their pictures at 6 months, but that doesn't mean they're actually passing in real life.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of those girls that you were jealous of because they were "passing at 6 months," they weren't really passing, they just LOOKED passable, and so your mind filled in the blanks and said "yeah, they're completely female now."

And Emily, yeah... she was very androgynous. Take a look at this video... as you can see, once you add in her voice and mannerisms, Ms. Aztoreth was definitely more between-genders at 18 months, looking either like a young teenage guy or a butchy girl depending on how you look at her. Here's a video of an interview she did (in Spanish) around that time.

It does suck that it'll take longer for some of us, myself included, to achieve what we thought would come only in 6 months.  Of course it hasn't been 6 months for me yet, but I haven't noticed any monumental physical changes yet.  It's slightly depressing, especially when you look at younger starters, but that's just it.  They're younger!  Ok, I'm older and bigger and didn't really have a feminine face to begin with...but when I wear makeup and do my hair...well I can see SOMETHING feminine is there.  Which just proves what so many people say about HRT.  Expect some changes, but don't expect them fast.
Is it progression if a cannibal uses a fork?

Ummm, ok. If that's andro, then I am Jason Statham in comparison...

In my opinion your hair, makeup and eyebrows make a much bigger difference in passing then hrt does, at least on the face... Get good at hair and makeup and you will do fine.
  •

ana1111

am I the only one that noticed what the biggest change between both videos was the things she did to try to be more passable like wearing female clothes, tweezed eyebrows, makeup, longer hair etc?

Id say hrt can and does do dramatic facial changes....if you took a glance at me now (just over 12 monthes)- and then back to month one, not much change eyebrows make up or clothes wise. In fact, tbh 100%- they help, but depending where you come from hrt can take a bit longer then you would expect. Ymmv, always plays key, as well as how fast ymmv as well. Sometimes its more like a quiet ride in the country time wise vs a highway. But yeah. Example being, a friend I havent seen since month three ran into me last week at a street fair. She thought I was my mom in my clothes and was confused till we talked.

Another friend I havent seen in ten years says I look wayyy more rounded out in the face and younger then back then.

Im looking forward to another two years, as it is good to see things can get more dramatic as time passes.
You see lots in the second video, I.e. changes, if you know what you are looming for from the base images.
Sure early on makeup, clithes, hair, eyebrows, etc all help and play big roles. But four years down the road? Well, see you in another year on that one.

As my ob says, foe trans girls its around 2-4 years, for a woman who is intersexed it can be 2-10 years. There are so many factors in this, with each person, it is widely impossible to narrow down more then the basic expectations.

Don't worry too much, months 8-10 were the worat n when I hit andro mode, I.e. my avatar. If I put another pic up - youd be surprised.
