I'ver always been a fan of Blue. The Last Time I Saw Richard and A Case of You I've always found profoundly moving, but though I bought other albums I've never really got on with them...

Then, a few weeks ago I pulled out The Hissing of Summer Lawns, put on in the car and it's followed me everywhere since.  I can't describe how deeply this album touches me.  The Boho Dance brings a tear to my eye almost every time I listen to it.  I don't know why and I don't need to know why :)

Can anyone recommend anything else from her discography?  What's the next stop on my Joni journey? :)

I think this song is so insane if you have a Man from Mars in your life

Blue is the album I've listened to the most by Joni, I can relate to not being able to tune into other of her albums as much...but Court and Spark is another good album. Blue was released '71, The Hissing of Summer Lawns '75, Court and Spark was the album before in '74. Also Hejira the album after The Hissing of Summer Lawns, in '76 is also one I'd recommend too, though it's just I've not listened much to others of hers yet, I'm sure there are other great albums there. I've heard good things about 'Don Juan's Reckless Daughter' in particular for example. Here's one of the best tracks I think from Court and Spark below, and one from Hejira below that:

I have a woman from Mars in my life and I think that might be enough.  I know nothing about her later work and the wear on her voice I find really intriguing.  That's a beautiful song.  I'll look this album out.  Thank you.

Yes, Blue is wonderful isn't it.  I realised I had Hejira somewhere and I put it on and was underwhelmed.  Then I left it on repeat as I did chores around the house and buy about the 4th time round it was completely under my skin.  Amelia and Song for Sharon especially.

Next stop Don Juan and Court and Spark.

Thanks to you too.

One album I think is particularly intriguing is Shine, released 2007, I'm not sure if this is true, but is apparently her seventeenth and 'final studio album'! I've only listened to the first track to this so far but sounds good!

Blue was the first album I heard of Joni, so many good songs on that... Carey, River, Little Green, A Case of You of course you mention... was starting to play the guitar at the time, was about 7 years ago, and managed to play the first part of A Case of You...certainly opened my eyes to the realm of 'open tuning'! (which is where you basically tune the guitar in an alternative way than normal)

Court And Spark is definitely one to check out soon, I have it downloaded actually though haven't gotten around to fully appreciating it, will do that soon now.

p.s. When you said about having Hejira on while doing the chores, it made me think of Cat Power saying the exact same thing about Bob Dylan's album 'Another Side of Bob Dylan'! i.e. she only started to appreciate it when she put it on while doing chores, so it kind of permeated. I have to look out where I saw that interview because I'm pretty sure she said something about having it on repeat too! How strange...
