My time staying where I have been sleeping has come to an end. A friend was kind enough to offer me a bed for a few nights which turned into six weeks. She has now rented the room and the new tenant is moving in today. I can't complain about having to leave, my friend has been extremely generous to me by letting me stay so long. That being said, I still have nowhere to go. I have been on a waiting list for a homeless shelter for 60 days now. I am up to number 1 on the list, but have been there for 9 days so far. I've made my daily call today and it is still not open, so it is looking like I will be back on the streets for at least one night. I will check in as I am able.

I am so sorry to hear that Allison , I wish I could help , but at the moment I only can send you a hug and wishes that your situation get solved soon .
In a way I can relate to this , as I am always scared that I will be evicted , I am struggling with money to pay rent . Yet I wasn't yet evicted , so I can say I really understand what you feel . I know it must me tough , but keep your spirit high , better times will come .
I hope we will read soon the post where you announce that you solved the situation and have a place to live in  .

I feel so sorry that you are going through this, it must be so difficult.

I feel horrible for not being able to change your situation, but I wish you the best and that you find a place to stay.

Hugs and kisses,

xxxx

Count me with the other women here, hopefully things will turn around quickly for you dear. Times like these make me wish I was wealthy so I could wave a magic wand and change the situational dynamics for you and so many others. Times are indeed grim for so many.

Best of luck lovely.  If I had a magic 'safe house' wand I would be waving it right now.  Check back in when you can y'hear?  And kudos for the stoic acceptance of a night on the streets.

Rosie
Well that was fun! What's next?

I spent 9 months in a hostel last year & many months before that being homeless (sofa surfing).
Keep phoning the hostel & follow any rules they set down no matter how stupid they may seem (my old hostel had some very strict rules).

It may sound crazy but whilst I was in the hostel I was safer than being out in public, around the hostel I could wear whatever clothes I wanted & ALL of the tenants knew that if they gave me any problems for being trans then they could face immediate eviction.
I did have a few problems but no more than any other tenants there.

Guidelines for surviving a hostel:

Keep yourself to yourself

DO NOT lend money

Report any signs of bullying/hostility immediately

Keep valuables locked away (if you don't have a secure lock box then invest in one)

Your room/flat is your private sanctum, it's up to you who is welcome past your door.

Get used to saying no & stick to it, people will use any story to tug on your heart strings in an effort to get you to part with money/food etc..

I wish you all the best in this difficult time, we're all here to support you

It is never fun, I was homeless on the streets for ten years and my advice is to be safe, use coffee shops and public spaces to stay visible. Do not be alone and do not give up. There is always hope.

A straight line may be the shortest distance between two points, but it is by no means the most interesting

Checking in. I've spent three nights sleeping in a park so far. It is quiet and safe. It is far enough out in the suburbs that there are no transients other than me in the area. Still waiting for a bed in the shelter. Didn't open today, hopefully Monday. I spend most of my time in coffee shops and fast food restaurants enjoying the air conditioning and free wifi.

I haven't showered in four days and feel completely nasty. It's been over 100 degrees every day.

I will check in when I can.
