suspected i was trans for a long time, finally want to start gender therapy to explore these feelings.

anyone have experience with a gender therapist in san diego? recommendations?

bonus points, major bonus points, if the therapist works with other issues too cuz i have other issues that i guess overlap? i dunno. could be separate but can't say for sure. thinking borderline personality disorder/ocd/all that good [bad] stuff. [not sure i have any of them, never been diagnosed, but i have symptoms, you know] anyway the trans thing is almost always intertwined with these issues though so i'd prefer a therapist to help with all of these overlapping things.

thanks for any info/recs/suggestions

Hi, I am also from the San Diego area. When I was first coming to terms with being transgender I called the San Diego LGBT center, and they gave me the number to a small mental health facility that offers therapy to LGBT people. They are very trans friendly, and I do believe they can help you with your other concerns. They helped me with my social phobia. For the life of me I cannot remember the number directly to them, but I happen to be going through that area tonight, so I will try to remember to get the address. When I was going there, they worked with me for being low income, so if you don't have insurance, you might want to look into them.

Also, if you are thinking of HRT the Tuesday night clinic at North Park Family health center can help with that. They will also work with you if you are low income. And the doctors are awesome. 619-876-4462

Good luck.

thanks a lot, kyle! i'll definitely give them a call. let me know if you remember what the facility itself was called too, that'd be great.

and if anyone else has other experiences, please let me know here :)

Sorry. I forgot to check. And now I am not sure the place still exists. I tried to find it online. It was on El Cajon Blvd near Texas street. There is a McDonalds right next to it. It's been 9 years since I've been there. But you can also check out the transgender discussion groups at The Center. http://www.thecentersd.org/programs/transgender-services/
