I had LASIK vision correction in 2003. I read that a side effect of estrogen is corneal steepening, changes in the curve of the cornea, and a concern for LASIK patients since their corneas are already weakend which the estrogen may cause a bulging cornea. Does anyone know if the cornea changes are progressive or will they stop. I am very worried about this. I want to be on estrogen for many more years, I am 31 yrs. old.

They will eventually stop, but it may change your prescription. :)

Thanks for replying to me. Did you have LASIK before taking HRT?

My Ophthalmologist suggested waiting for Lasik until a year or two after starting HRT. It gives them a better idea of what your corneas will do. :)

No LASIK but my vision changed after HRT started. My vision actually improved. Go figure.
Just trying to find comfort in this "shell" that doesn't fit.  But I am "remodeling" the shell finally!

As part of self improvement prior to my transition I had lasik in 2010. I have maintained good vision for years of HT after having lasik.

How old were you when you started HRT?
Did HRT improve nearsightedness or farsightedness?

Mine seems to be improving too! (Granted if my observations are correct it would be a borderline miracle) I have glaucoma so most of my vision problems are likely from optic nerve damage. I read that taking E will alter the shape of the optic nerve. I figure that means that new optic nerve cells grow in different positions thus "regenerating" and improving vision.

Like I said. Borderline miracle if it is true. I don't see my new ophthalmologist till November though.

My visit far away improved somewhat. My near vision improved so much I have to take off my glass to see close up really well!

In the last 2-3 yrs and especially months, my hormone regimen was changed to something more adequate for me, with more E and some P. I went for an eye exam and they found that my vision improved markedly. From -2.5 to -1.5.
I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience

On HRT since early 2004
Post-op since late 2005

So you can see more clearly from far away or reading closeup ?

Im at -3.75. i would love to see that number's magnitude decrease in size. At your numbers in guess I could actually see decently without anything. Currently I need my contacts or I'm practically blind.

I had Lasik more than a decade ago. I have been on hrt for more than 3 years.  The only deterioration in my eyesight has been age related.
