HRT but no T blockers?!!

Hi guys, so I recently started on HRT about 2 weeks ago, and I thought because all of the reading I've been doing about it, that my doctor would prescribe me estrogen and testosterone blockers, but to my surprise my doctor started by prescribing estrogen pills (prymogin) and also injected progesterone with estradiol valerate (gravidinona). I asked him why he didn't give me testosterone blockers and he says that to his professional opinion I don't need them for now and that he wants to see how my body reacts to the estrogen and progesterone first (he said for about 5 or 6 months) without the T blockers. I was a little worried but he is one of the best specialists in the country (here in Mexico) when it comes to treating transgender people, he has wrote a couple of well recognized books on the transgender subject and stuff. But still, I would like to know has this happened to any other trans girls around? is my transition going to be negatively affected by this? what are your thoughts on it? By the way, I'm 21 years old.

well. from my understand the estrogen will block the T. He probably just want to evaluate what course you need to take

Different Doctors do things differently. Your blood tests will tell the story. I am sure he will adjust accordingly. I know you want everything in a rush but it is a life long commitment and not  race. Right now your body is making some huge adjustments and easy does it is a good plan.

Yep, estrogen blocks T as well. In some lucky women, that's enough; it was for me. I have only ever taken low dose estrogen (no blockers), and my T was in the female range within three months. I'm guessing if you *don't* see enough T suppression by the time he tests you, he'll add blockers or up your E dose or both.

I'm only on oestrogen gel, my doctor explained that it was often enough to suppress the T and that it it hadn't by the first set of blood tests he would introduce a blocker. I asked why no blocker from the start, and he said that they have more side effects, so if there's a chance someone doesn't need them he'd rather they didn't start.

In my case when my first blood test results came back my levels were all in female ranges. I've been on the gel for six months now and have had decent results so far, so don't worry you'll most likely be fine. Your doctor is just doing what he thinks is best for your long term health, and if this doesn't work he'll adjust things so they do.

I started on just estrogen and got great results from it.  We added spiro and progesterone after six weeks.  I am doing great.
It' s all about your blood work (which is why self meds is bad).
