Transgender issues were touched on, which definitely needed to be — but would this have happened if Susan Stanton hadn't made national headlines after being fired as the city manager of Largo, Fla., for being transgender?

I know plenty of queer people who work on issues facing us other than gay marriage and ENDA, although these issues are important.

I think that if all you look at in the GLBT community is what our goals what we want in our lives, then you might want to say we are selfish. I know for a fact that in our own individual lives we do care about other things and we do write and talk about other issues around the world and in our own community. When we have a debate and it is all about GLBT issues and we only have a certain amount of time to discuss and ask questions to our future leaders, well, yes we are selfish as this is what we want to hear from them at that time. They sure don't bring up some of the questions in other debates around the country. In fact they try to ignore us. This was a wonderful debate, it may not have been the best one I have seen but it was wonderful as they did talk about our issues. I wish they would have discussed TG issues more, but they only had a certain amount of time and HRC was sponsering it. If NTAC sponsers a debate, maybe we could have more of our issues answered.

We must be selfish, i.e., look out for our own interests and needs.  There are many who still believe stuff such as, 'through the power of God/Christ, you can break this disgusting condition and live a normal life'...

I found in grade and high school that I often did not get relief from bullying until I fought back and bloodied several noses and blackened a few eyes.  I never changed their feelings toward me, but they knew to keep it to themselves, and passed that wisdom on to others who would 'teach me the error of my ways' or 'make a real man out of me'...

Damn right, we are selfish...
