Oh, forgot to add I wear mine inside-out every other time. Mainly because I can't easily tell the difference, and it turns itself inside out as I pull it off over my head at the end of the day. NO idea if this has anything to do with anything.
I always did this too, and I've also got no clue if it affected anything.

I live in California, so heat and sweating are commonplace most of the year. In the summer the average temperature range is 85-100F (~30-38C). I've found that binders over years of wearing tend to hold on to a little bit of smell, but if you take care of them, it should only be noticeable after washing if you're smelling close enough for your nose to touch.

You're not supposed to dry them in the dryer, only line or flat dry, but if you don't do it too often, you can get away with it. It'll shrink the binder a little bit, which can be good or bad, but the dryer sheet might help to get the smell out.

My advice would be to wash it in a washing machine, on handwash/delicate/gentle cycle. Make sure it's cold water, and use a generous amount of laundry detergent (I've found liquid works better than powder, but whatever you have). Once it's done, hang it on a hanger and put it out somewhere to dry. Outside (but out of the sun) would be the best choice since you said your apartment's no good, but maybe near a window would work as well. (I just hang mine in my closet and it dries in an hour or two, but it seems like that wouldn't work for you.) That's always how I wash mine, and they've held up just fine after 3+ years.

If that still doesn't get the smell out, spray the thing with vinegar or febreeze (you can soak it too if it's really that bad, but I would try spraying first), let it sit for a little while, then wash it in the machine again. That should probably do the trick. Good luck!

So I bought this nice shirt at a second-hand store and brought it home.  It was there I realized that the pits were rank with BO that didn't come out with washing it.  Soaked it in febreeze for 2 days then washed it.  Good as new.  Worth a try if nothing else works.

I have found that oxyclean does a pretty fine job of stink abatement. I live in South Louisiana...so heat and humidity equals sweating like a pig about 10 months of the year.

A scoop of oxy in the wash with binders and voila.....no residual stank.
To be or not to be....that is the question

Wow, thank you so much for all the helpful replies!
I think I'll try putting it in the washing machine on a gentle program and then hang it to dry and see what happens. I'll inform if it works out!

I had exactly the same problem though mine wasn't from Underworks. Anyway, it smelled so badly and I couldn't get rid of the smell just handwashing it I gave up and threw it into the clothes washer and that did the trick. I know it's not recommended to wash your binders this way, but what can you do when they smell so badly.

If you cannot get rid of the smell, I would recommend try to wash it at 30 Celsius and then obviously let it air dry as normal or use a hairdryer or similar if you cannot wait for it to air dry.

And yes, as much as I like that this summer was kind of hot for a while it got too hot lol. The irony of living in Sweden where you spend 70% of the year waiting for summer and when summer finally arrives all you is bitching how it's not how you want it to be. XD
Come watch with me as our world burns.
