Decent-fitting women's jeans

I just watched this video clip from the Good Morning America TV show in which they compared many different pairs of size 8 women's jeans. They actually varied as much as 4 inches in the waist. Apparently manufacturers do this sort of thing deliberately so that you'll stick with their brand. The bottom (!) line is the only way to fit yourself in jeans is to try them on.

Here in my country, most manufactures recently use centimeter or mm as the standard sizes of shoes and clothes, minimizing the confusion. Still, some imported clothes can cause the confusion. For me, the problem is usually the length, rather than the girth.
