I disagree with those reasons.

NBR will tell you to call Dr Garramone at the slightest problem (which I didn't have) but they will not try and treat any kind of condition, and probably made that clear to him as well. I have heard that they will say "I think you are wrapped too tightly, but you need to call him." Sure enough they are wrapped too tightly. He would know that because he has dealt with a lot of their clients (and with NBR at one time). I can see why it wouldn't be on his webpage, that might link them too closely. I do understand that. But I don't see how he is liable in any case. If he is really concerned, I have reason to believe that he has excellent lawyers, and it's probably in his paper work anyway. (BTW, there was a falling out, so these weren't initial concerns at all. It's highly probably NBR has prevented trouble, by urging people to call him sooner.)

Most people coming in with friends or family members do NOT really get 24/7, unless your family members are particularly adept. You will not generally need that either. They ask for a responsible party to pick you up at the Surgery Center, that's it. This only needs to be a legal adult.

I'm sorry you had so much difficulty, but it isn't typical. I know people who get surgery here in NM. They go home and pretty much do not have anyone watching them for a week, maybe someone to call on for help. BTW, if I HAD had a lot of pain I would have been better off at NBR. I had no one with me. I would have kicked a private duty nurse out after a few hours, I would have found one way too disturbing of my space.

I have to come in here on a few things. One of the reasons that Doctor Garramone tells you to avoid recovery centers is liability. He's protecting himself legally. Another reason is that although it's rare you CAN have complications. Personally I wouldn't have been able to mentally or physically get through my surgery without 24/7 care the first week. I had an overwhelming amount of pain from the drains. Which, from my understanding is uncommon. That being said,  Dr. Garramone did everything wonderfully and my experience couldn't have been better. So keep in mind when you make your plans that everyone's experience is different.

I am going to give a big "I AGREE", to my brother clone, here.  NBR worked very well for me and not only have they worked with a number of Garramone patients, the owner had his own surgery done by Garramone!  That is why he started his place.  He realized that it would be helpful for people (especially guys traveling on their own), to have a place to stay besides a hotel.

Personally, I feel much better knowing that guys who are going alone, like King Malachite, will have people around him the whole week (not just a private duty nurse the first day or so), in case he does need something (from help emptying his drains to an extra ride to Garramone's office if something is concerning, for example).

I am not saying that NBR is perfect, but I have yet to read someone on this site say they were unhappy with the place.  NOT saying those people don't exist, just saying that everyone I have seen post here have only said they were glad that they stayed there.

There aren't too many complaints about them. I have heard some. But they aren't serious imo.
Yes they aren't perfect, but I do not think you are at more risk staying there. Mind you I don't think as surgery goes that it's very risky-- but I think NBR has helped people deal with situations that have come up professionally.

BTW, another situation where it might be particularly helpful is people coming in from abroad. Being unfamiliar with the US would just add stress in a situation which will already be helpful. You wouldn't have to think of all the strange things we might do here. LOL.

A third situation would be with parents who are "on board" but may be having their own issues with transition. I think being around trans guys would prove we aren't monsters or freaks. I think I had a very good affect on some folks from the UK. Someone who has never been with other trans guys might just like this as well. Young guys in my experience are less resilient as a group, and having your hand held a bit can be comforting. OTOH, they are consential about the hand holding thing, in case you might hate that (which I would). LOL
