I want to start on my road to hormones, but I'd like to know how I would be able to find a doctor, that in turn would refer me to a gender therapist.

Check out our Wiki pages or do a internet search for your area for gender therapist.

A good place to start is www.psychologytoday.com enter your zip code then under sexuality click transexual issues or there are many other options to choose from.  I started there calling one after another until I found a therapist with an open schedule. Your therapist can probably refer you to an endocrinologist later. Im still pre-hrt but i have an apointment with an endo in October. Once you find a therapist who deals with trans issues let them help you find other doctors, groups ect.
