I read somewhere that orange juice decreases the effect of medications including blood pressure medications, and milk decreases the effect of estrogens including estradiol. I'm considering cutting out juices, and milk from my diet. What would happen if you take spironolactone with orange juice? What do you take your hormones with? Has anyone cut off the above from their diets?

I have cut none of the above out and I am doing quite well! I do know that Grape fruit juice though can potentiate or decrease some medication responses though.  :)

The reason orange juice could do this is because its acidic. By acidifying the blood and urine, it speeds up the clearance rate of some medications. However, we are talking large doses here. For instance, you can clear the blood and urine of amphetamines three times faster by taking a huge dose (about 20 gallons of orange juice) of Vitamic C aka Asorbic Acid. They also use it to clear the blood in the case of PCP overdoses. But I don't think this will have any effect on anything. Grapefruit Juice works by inhibiting the production of CYP450, which is an enyzme linked to the metabolism of various drugs. Some addicts use it to prolong or potentiate opiate and benzo highs. But again, I don't think these things have any effect beyond being psychosomatic. The doses needed are huge.

Okay that was long, in essence, drink and eat what you want. The most important thing is to eat well and try to take in good proteins and avoid tobacco. It is thought, through various research studies, that one pack a day renders birth control ineffective in women. Now what that means for Trans women remains to be seen as I smoke and I have 32D boobs. I recently got my insurance to cover both spiro and estrogen, they didn't before for one reason: I didn't ask. I'm such an idiot. My tansition would be so much further along if I just asked. The reason: my HRT has been eratic cause of finincial issues and the most important thing to do for a good transition is to take a consistent dose. Even if it's low. I went two months without spiro unnecessarily. My T stil stayed undetectable though! But I did start becoming aroused again...oh God it was disgusting. But now I'm soooooooooooooo happy as the one thing I won'thave to worry about it affording my E and AAs.

so is it okay to take your hormones with orange juice? I'm having SRS in February anyways, so I don't have to worry about this anymore. Post op just one injection every two weeks. :)

I can only say I personally have not had a problem with it at all. I drink it all the time.  :)

I believe there was another thread not to long ago saying that it was good to drink grapefruit juice because it helped with absorption of E it also has less potassium than OJ. I know that is contrary to most medications as it is detrimental and does not allow them to be absorbed efficiently. .  Do a search here on the site for Grapefruit juice some interesting thoughts.
