Let's say you where able to keep the medical status quo but was given an option to timeshift era's.

Which era in your opinion represents the most ideal version of femininity (and you) at heart?

Here's some snapshots of each era and what was considered the feminine archetypes of the time:

From the new millennium to today things have been basically homogenous so no need for examples.

Beauty has certainly evolved and things seemed a lot less complicated depending how you frame it.

So if you could, would you trade?

The 60s for me. To me, it doesn't get much better than people like Grace Slick in the counterculture or Sophia Loren in the establishment. Particularly the late 60s are a time I find ideal as far as femininity goes.
15 years on Susans, where has all the time gone?

If I were forced to choose, I'd go for the 40s or 50s.  Some of the women from those eras are rocking a style I really love.

Evelyn,
Where do you come up with these most interesting ideas.  You are amazing, and I feel blessed to be seen in the same pixelated screen with you. ;)

For me the here and now is amazing and where I choose to stay.  Guess I would rather be a t-girl in a progressive era, than a g-girl in a more repressive one.  Besides, I can dress as beautifully as I choose, and pick an era for every day of the week. (Until Visa cuts me off)

Peace,

For most of history, except for the very wealthy and privileged classes, life was pretty difficult for women.

If you had a father or husband who took good care of you things were fine.  If you happened to be a lesbian, unless you inherited wealth or had other means of support you were condemned to a marginal life of drudgery.  Think of a maid or store clerk in 19th century England.

Marriage to a well-to-do man was virtually the only means to a secure future.

I know this topic is mostly about style and fashion, but I wish to remind you that those things only entered the lives of women allied themselves with men who could support them.

Staying right where I'm at. But I wouldn't mind going back to the late 80s or early 90s, but mostly for nostalgic reasons, things I liked at those times. But nowadays is the best time to be a woman.

Right now. I'm so boring lol but really women have never had it better and IMO the styles of today is a golden age of female fashions from sknny jeans and leggings to jumpsuits and shirt dresses. Then there's an infinity of makeup (I spent lots of time in maekup isles and women's or juniors departments and even low-end stores like Forman Mills have some pretty rocking jeans, dresses, top,s p[urses and everything else for an inexpensive price. Though my BF had to dfrag me out of there the other day which id funny cause I usually complain about going there since the clothes are usually do big for me. What don't they cater to waify wittle white women?

Though if I had to leave this era, I'd go to 1760-1780 France. Not just becuase I could basically where what amounts to a wedding dress in all different colors everyday. Plus the gardens and as long as you were a high-society woman, life would be okay. Though, prolly still pretty patriachal, but am demure and submissive so i'd get along.

True. Wouldn't it be fun to broaden not only the era's but also the age of empires. Say being a woman during the Roman Empire or one of the Chinese Dynasties. Certainly even in modern times it's tough to be a woman in India or the Middle East let alone being a transgendered woman. Keeps in perspective how lucky we are today. So my answer as a transitioning woman would have to be here in western culture - and NOW.

However if I was a privileged CIS woman and able to retain my outright lesbian leanings, then it would have to be the 70's. "Yeah Baby!" - Austin Powers

If I was straight (which I'm not) then it would be the 40's where I can still experience all the fabulous decades and I wouldn't be dealing with the very social taboo of being queer.

Yep my thoughts exactly except I'd rather be a vampire during the Victorian era in France, muahahaha   >:-)

I don't think that there has ever been a better era to be a woman. You can romanticize the past all you want, but the cold hard truth is that women of the past were mostly housewives. If you wanted to do more with your life, you could try (assuming your husband would allow it), but your options as a woman would always be limited compared to what a man could do. Also, are you forgetting what life before the Internet was like? ;)

This. I would rather be a woman now compared to any previous era. It's nice to think about the older eras and certain aspects, but as far as treatment of women, this is the best time to be a woman.

Don't feel alone Joanna I have the same problem. With the exception of boobs (I wear a 32B) I think you and I are close to the same size and I have a very hard time in most stores finding stuff small enough for me. I actually do better in Thrift stores and Godwill. I think because America got a little fatter a small today is really yesterdays meduim, and a size 4 dress is really yesterdays size 8 or 10 I dunno.

As far as the era I'd like to be living in as a woman, while I can appreciate the benefit and easier living during a much simpler time in the past, say the 80's for example. If I'm limited to the past and present I'd have to choose now. Women have much more rights in this day and age and are better accepted in the workplace than any era of the past. And, being barefoot and preggers isn't my idea of a fun happy life. So yea, given those limitations I'd have to say I'm happy right where I'm at. However if I can go beyond the present, say, have a choice between the past, present, and future, I'd have to choose 200 years from now. Interstellar space travel will most likely be a reality by then and my place is roaming among the stars and living off world somewhere as an independent woman.

Hey, we can dream can't we?

50's decade, and a movie actress... I would be June Allyson.  no one else..  The longer skirts (tho now, i'm jeans/tees kinda girl) open toed shoes, seamed stockings.. one thing tho, i would invent the Aaah bra, and be able to help my sisters ditch the armor-plated, bullet-proof, steel-reinforced I-beam, underwire Madonna bras...   ;)

hey, if yer gonna dream, dream big!!

Disregarding gender discrimination and only taking fashion into account, I love love love the 20s Hollywood glamour style, and it's practically the basis for my aesthetic.

I have a love for the 80's since I was a teenager. So yeah it would be either that or the sixties.

I am so lucky to be where I am! :)
