Wishing all teachers on this forum an enjoyable, productive, and fulfilling school year! And, for those who are transitioning, I also wish for you a drama-free experience at work.

I wish you all the same.

I feel you all have more strength then all of us put together.

You are shinning examples of what it is to be role models to our coming generations.

Hugs

Agreed.  Standing in front of thirty teenagers is a brave, selfless and important thing to do.

Best of luck.

In my case I'm going to be standing in front of tweens :)

Thank you kindly.

Students have only been back for two days, but I'm getting a really good feeling about them. I think I'll have great classes this year.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

It's good to see teachers on here. I'm a classroom assistant in special ed, I was on my way to a teaching internship, my teachers loved me, my principal was going to even pay for my testing. But I came out as Trans and now I am all but fired. They are attempting to push me out. I'm trying to find another job.

I'm really sorry to hear that LJ. I hope that your situation improves either at your current school or in a new environment.

Teaching is challenging in so many ways. It feels like there are endless people to please: Parents, your co-workers, principals, district administrators, and the state bureaucrats all have their agenda they want you to satisfy. I think most teachers in my building walk around with a constant self-protection mindset. We are in a stodgy field that demands conformity. Tenured or not, your life can be made miserable by supervisors that have any issue with you.

But there are schools with positive environments, so don't give up hope! It may take some time to find the right place. Other transgender teachers are out there. Not everyone gets tormented on national news (but my heart goes out to that that have been). In a town near me two openly transgender teachers are quietly engaged in their careers. Good luck!!
