I so want to be better at makeup, I have tried everything myself but just can't do it. I'm tired of looking in the mirror and saying ugh! Anyone know a makeup artist in Seattle who can help me?

Def visit MAC!
Usually they will do a makeover and give you lots of pointers.  I had a friend video my visit so that I can revisit it for tips. 
It's mostly practice though.  I am still using cheap makeup until I get better.

I agree with Madeline, after I started HRT I went to MAC for a quick make up class and was able to get a lot of ideas from them, normally they will do a free session the first time for you to understand how it works.

I try not to use cheap make up, the difference between cheap and the non cheap ones is huge, you can see more definition when using a good make up.

The saying "Practice makes purfect" so fits here. Help from a girl friend or at least some one who has the experiance with make up helps alot also.

MAC and a few other stores do that look and ask around you can find a couple. You tube is a hit or miss. there are good ones but also some real shotty as well. but for ideas its a decent place to go.

the key is practice, practice, practice. and knowing that we will always look in the mirror and think i could have done better.

I also used YouTube a lot at the beginning, they have really good videos there. You can also use Pinterest, there are a lot of makeup styles you can choose from and they will show you step by step how to do it.

I still go to my wife on a regular basis and ask for pointers. and working in an ER i ask many of my patients how they did there make-up. you would be suprised at the talks i get in to lol

Hey Lex, I just recently have been figuring things out as far as makeup as well, so here are things I would have told myself before I learned:

Learn your eye shape. I, for example, have deep set eyes, so makeup tutorials for deep set eyes have been the most useful for me to look at. I learned how to make my normally dark looking, tired eyes look awake and pop with a little white eyeliner and light eyeshadow in the inner corners of my eyes.

Also, figure out your skin tone, and figure out what works for your eye color and particular tone. I have a light olive complexion and have dark brown eyes, so purples and pinks work well for me.

Past that, go to coastalscents.com, get some not so expensive makeup and play around!

Girl friends and YouTube have been my teachers but if you have the courage for a shopping center, go for it!!

Like others said, M.A.C, If you have the money, take the M.A.C Master class. You will learn a lot. Don't have any fears about going to them, they are very accepting and I actually know a couple of trans-girls who work for them.

Joe Harwood and Pixiwoo pretty much tought me everything I know, I highly recommend watching their channels, don't be afraid to pause try, pause try and so on.

Also get facial wipes and q-tips, don't be afraid to start over and if you make a small mistake use the q-tips.

I'll echo "practice makes perfect". I've been putting makeup on since I was around 12 years old (almost 40 now). Although, I could probably use one of those MAC classes one of these days.
