Can anyone who's had radial artery forearm phalloplasty give me a few tips? I've not had a bowel movement since my surgery 5 days ago. They gave me a laxative last night and I can feel the need to pass, but when I try nothing happens because sitting on the toilet is painful and uncomfortable. I cant strain because of the incisions.

What helped your first movement?

I haven't had surgery but you better poop or they will be sticking an enema in you.

Not pooping is no fun at all. Lots and lots of water helps too. Personally I find strong green tea helps with bowel movements (as opposed to being a laxative).

However, if you think of the large intestine as being a big tube (which it is) the best way to get things moving without straining is to lie on your back and firmly massage the right side of your abdomen from the pelvis up towards the ribs/liver for 15 minutes or so. Essentially you are giving the ascending colon a hand, and pushing the stuff inside up towards the transverse colon which in turn puts more pressure behind the contents in the descending colon. I find this works much better than massaging the left side of the abdomen. Works wonders, sometimes within only a couple of hours. :)

I can't really do the massaging :( there's an incision there which is very tender and sensitive. I'm sure it's just down to position on the toilet at minute. I can feel the need to poo, but because I can't point my ass downwards to get the right position, it's struggling to cone through. If I look at the ceiling I can feel more movement, but it's like Gandalfs stuck up my ass "thou shalt not pass!" lol

I would just talk to the nurses.  I really wouldn't strain.

By the way, congrats on stage 1 !

At least you pooped, right? ^_^ I wish you a speedy recovery, btw and congrats on the surgery. If you feel down about the pooping (xD) just think about the monumental step you just made forward.

In regards to the pooping I'd rather never poop again! I seriously can't wait until at least my ass side of things are more comfortable!

I've just been through somewhat similar issue. My medication was having major impact on bowels coupled with fear of fistula. I had a few nights of muscle spasms on my right hand side keeping me awake at night.

The nurse checked and I had a lot of deep gas in the upper colon - which was acting like a pressure lock stopping easy movements. I started taking anti flatulence medication which helped ease off the internal gas. I stopped after 2 days thinking all clear / and it returned unexpectedly.

I started the anti flatuence pills and also changed my antibiotics - so far four days later - so good. I did have 7 big poops one day with a lot of gas as well and have started an easier routine of 3 smaller poops / day, same as when I was on estrogen. I found T made me feel like pooping once a day and much more painful.

Good luck and hope you recover fast.

I'm a little late to the game, but I had one movement a few days after surgery and then I went 16 days without one. I had to have a large brazilian man named fabio give me an enema, no joke. Even if you already got the job done, as long as you're on pain meds I suggest you do miralax every day or every other day. Helps get things flowing. You probably dont want to get an enema from fabio, unless thats something you're into.

The first few days after getting home from the hospital was difficult! I did managed to poop but it was like passing boulders!!! And not being able to push them out either was making it very unpleasant! But naturally things have sorted themselves out and it's now a dream :)

Well, lol as pleasent as taking a poop can be!! XD

Apologies if this post was a little tmi!  :/
