Sweating after top surgery

Bimmer Guy

I have just been through my first summer since top surgery.  I don't know about other guys, but for some reason I can't get used to sweating without a binder on.  It still feels so weird to me.

I hate the feeling of sweat on my new chest.  It is like my chest (like the center/sternum area), is still not used to air.  I still get this weird cold sensation in that area sometimes (when sweating and when not, if I am outside with a light breeze).

It is really odd.  As soon as I come inside I have to take my t-shirt off and wipe the sweat off my chest (and leave my shirt off).  I would take off my binder when I came inside if it was soaking wet and I knew I was going to stay in, but otherwise, the wet binder didn't really bother me.

Does anyone else have this problem?  I thought it was just a time thing, but it has been 10 months since my surgery and one full summer season on the east coast.

I know it is a weird complaint, and don't get me wrong, I am grateful for "this problem", but I think it is odd that it is still happening.

I've seen any number of cis-males that take their t shirt off ans wipe the sweat off their chest. You aren't alone in feeling the sweat that way, just new to it.

Yes, I just find it odd that I haven't gotten used to it yet.  It has been many months now of heat and sweat and it still feels so foreign to me.  Interesting, is all.

No doubt, they say it takes half  as long to get used to something new or form anew habit as it did to get used to the old something or old habit. If so, you have a bit to go.

I went swimming for the first time this past week (the water was so freezing couldn't appreciate it) but it did feel odd not to have something on the top. You can try wearing a t-shirt or rash guard I suppose.

Jay!  Good to see you!  I have been wondering where you were.  You know you are a bad boy for letting your scars see the sun within the first year, right?

I was talking just everyday sweat you experience in the summer.  Shirt on (I was saying when I get home I want to immediately take my shirt off).  You live in a warmer place so maybe it wasn't as notable to you.  But me, I recovered in the fall/winter, so I have only had 3 or so months with the hotter temps.  I thought I would get used to it by now.  It feels odd.  Very odd. and uncomfortable (almost awkward-like).  It is not a problem per se, just something I noticed and wondered if others had experienced.

I'm noticing the same thing. It's only been 5 weeks but I'm being more active as I feel better, and with family visiting its hard to be a lazy bum. I notice that I get really weirded out when I feel the sweat stick my shirts to my skin. With a binder it was never a problem since the sweat just sort of soaked up.

Well I put sunscreen on and then put zinc oxide on the scars and nipples. I also was not out in the sun very long either. I was not in Albuquerque either.

Exactly!  Weirded out is the best way to describe it.  Also, even if not sweating, just feeling the breeze against my sternum feels uncomfortable and sometimes even cold.  I can't believe my body isn't used to it yet.  Side note, Ayden, I was thinking about you the other day and was going to ask if you would give us an update (and maybe some pics?), in the stickied recovery thread?  I have wondered how you are getting along.

Jay, I was just messing with you.  It is just that this is the one huge warning you hear over and over (not to expose your chest to sun for the first year), so it made me chuckle when I read you went without a shirt on.

I know but I wanted folks to know how careful I was. Because you should not be exposed to sun. I think zinc oxide will not allow burning in a reasonable period of time, it's very thick stuff. You know the stuff people put on the tips of their noses and so on. Often bright colors. I used this stuff: http://www.solartex.com/skin-care/zinka-colored-sunblock-zinc-waterproof-nosecoat?gdftrk=gdfV28814_a_7c2491_a_7c8536_a_7c193q&gclid=CjwKEAjw1ZWgBRD-n6ew0oan1xwSJABAbf8p99KT52ZWlM8zFxnl3hv4PFYl7J7FOpe2suM37xa-gBoCCbbw_wcB

It comes in "flesh" which is kind of Caucasian. There is also clear. It's very thick and a little does NOT go a long way.
