So,  I've been going threw a work related ordeal.  And the end result is that 3 major Offshore Drilling company's to include BP, Transocean, and my employer who shall remain nameless.  Have officially set pro-transgender policies.  I work out on the rigs.  And the have taken the stance that we can officially use the facilities of our gender identity.  No waiting for bottom surgery.  Just have the most basic diagnostic letter and you are clear.

It's kind of a big deal because up until now the policy had be that if your ID didn't say female. You HAD to use the boys room.  And on an oil rig this made for some really uncomfortable situations.

So I'm happy to say that at least part or the offshore oil industry supports us.

Jennifer, I work in software development for a geophysical data processing company that processes seismic and oil/gas well data, refines it, then sells it to the oil and gas companies that are interested in it. Thus far my company has been 100% behind me. Also, I had spoken to some people and several of the mid-size O&G companies in Houston appear to be trans friendly too, like Hess, Andarko, and others.

About the only one of the "big" oil companies that I consistently hear bad things about is Exxon and they apparently have LGBT issues across the board within management there. But as one executive remarked to me, it's their loss as the rest of us get some top notch folks who just won't even apply to work there.

Well BP was pretty bad to me until my company got behind me.  I was using the girls room (2 years after going full time) at the PH heliport and they got real mean.  I left that office in tears.

Awesome job Jen.  That's seriously an accomplishment.
Lots of the software firms are progressive if that is an option.  Just to name one I've heard tell about since I live in Seattle, Microsoft has medical coverage for transition meds, psych and SRS.  I am pretty sure the other big SW firms are doing the same.  Sweet that you can get big oil to be reasonable too.
