My first session with a gender therapist is Wednesday!! :D I am super excited, but I am a tad nervous as well; this is a big step in the right direction, and I do not want to mess it up. How should I go about my first session? Bear in mind that he is the only gender therapist within 2 hours of my town, so he is my only option. I do not want to land in a 6-month limbo or turn him into a gatekeeper. Do I start out by admitting that my primary goal is to get a letter of recommendation for hrt? Should I give him a copy of the 5-page essay I wrote about my journey? ??? Any advice or experiences will be greatly appreciated!

Be yourself along with being honest to the therapist about what you hope to gain or get from therapy. If you do that , then you won't mess anything up. Even if you don't do that, I'm not sure you could mess it up. whether you share the letter or not is up to you. I don't think it would hurt especially if that is how you need to be able to communicate your particular journey to the therapist at first.
