Have any of you guys had your eggs banked? Anyone actually used IVF? What were your experiences, costs, et cetera?

I am pre-T, have always wanted children, and am not ready to give up the hope of having a child that is genetically mine, so I'm now wondering if--before starting T--I should seriously consider egg banking as my first step.

If its something that means a lot to u by all means take the opportunity if you can. I'm coming into this all late to the party so I had my kids (my oldest lives w her dad n my sister adopted the youngest) n while i wouldn't have traded them for thw world motherhood want for me. But that is something ppl have to decide for themselves

I looked into it but won't be doing it because of the costs.  If you do a google search you can see the typical fee amounts they are asking for.

It's very expensive, IVF is very difficult and not exactly a sure thing, and eggs are much more complex than sperm and don't store easily. IMO, anybody taking T should do it with the idea that this may keep them from bearing biological children.

Like the comments above it is expensive and extremely unpredictable if your eggs will survive the thawing process and afterwards even attach(to whoever would be carrying) if thawing is successful. However there is a much higher success rate to freezing embryos instead of eggs. So if you very much want them you could do that. Embryos have been proven to attach just fine after even a decade of being stored so *shrug* that's what I plan on doing personally because the possibility of a having my own offspring is very important to me.
Suffering -- had given her a heart to understand what my heart used to be.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

The more I research it, the more prohibitively expensive it sounds, but hmmm...The college I'm attending next year provides up to $50,000 a lifetime for its students "transgender healthcare related needs". I emailed the person in charge of it to ask if freezing my eggs before starting T would possibly qualify; I doubt it, but I'll let you guys know what she says.

I've also read that it might also be possible to stop T at a certain point in the future (when I have more money), extract my eggs, and freeze them before going back on T, so there's that...anyone thought of or actually done that?

To freeze an embryo, you have to create one first. It's in the thousands also though it's cheaper.

I never banked or considered IVF or a surrogate. My plan is to adopt. More specifically adopt older children and maybe be a foster parent for gender varient youth and teens. Not a real solid plan by it's a general idea.

I think if I had a school providing me $50,000 for trans health care, I'd be focusing more on top surgery, hysto, and hormones, considering how iffy ivf can be.

Well, I certainly wouldn't be spending $50,000 on the egg banking alone. I was thinking, if the insurance would pay for it, to spend around $10,000 - $15,000 for it. I also have grad school ahead of me and will likely go to a UC school for that, and all the UC schools provide an unlimited amount of funds for transgender health care.
