How to stand up for my hair LOL

Ok the subject made me laugh when I wrote it but it's actually serious. So, I'm not 18 yet, but I'll be soon in March, and well my mom doesn't want me to look like a girl at all, she makes me cut my nails every time she can (even though I bite them so i don't really care as much as I care for my hair, but i'm trying to stop to bite them too, any suggetion?) and now that my hair are kinda getting longer, she's noticing that and she wants me to go to a barber shop and get them cut (I will never go to a shop, before I would cut them myself because I hate barber shops). What can I do to keep my hair? I really don't know D: it's very frustrating and it's hard to stand up for my hair because she becomes mean to me.

Well, I've been there, myself, so let's see what we can suggest to you. The most obvious thing to do (assuming you actually are TG and on HRT, as it says on the left) would be to come out and discuss the fact that you feel that you are a woman and need to look more like a girl. You are going to have to do that eventually and it will never be any easier than it would be right now. Assuming you can't manage that, though, you might just explain to her that you are old enough now to make your own decisions about your appearance and you want to wear your hair long. Tell her you will keep it trimmed neatly and in a nice style. You might even turn her objection around by asking her advice on ways you would look good with longer hair. Trust me-- this trick can work.

In that case if you want to have any hope of keeping it you need to come out and deal with it. Life has a funny way of throwing us these loops and force us into tough choices. If you say nothing she will have you in a barber shop very soon. It is totally your call of course.

Well, when I was about 10, after countless tantrums, arguments, hateful words said and hiding in the woods countless times, my mom and dad finally gave up. I don't suggest that at 17 though it may make you look really childish. Maybe just show her some guys that have long hair and it isn't that unusual for guys to have long hair. I still hate that freakin' word "barbershop". Since you are on HRT, it might just be best to let her know? You are really in between a rock and hard place on this one Emily, but I know how you feel. I just don't want to give any bad advise.

You could find a middle ground and get a really cute, short, feminine haircut? There are LOTS of different styles to choose from!
