Chris R.

Hi all, it's been a while since I last came on here!
A lot of stuff has happened in my life, both good and bad; but since I don't want to think about the bad side of this right now, let's just talk about the good ones  ;)

First things first- I'm in Germany now. I didn't fail at school, I got here safely, and one of the first things I've done was look up  a few therapists in the city I live in and surroundings. Found one, called her- we had a few communications problem (whenever she called me I wasn't home and vice versa), so two weeks ago or something I walked around the whole city while using my tablet as a navigator just to find where she was. I ended up walking for two hours straight but it was worth it! She'll call me around Mid-November/Mid-December for our first appointment. I don't know if we'll get to talk about it immediately or if I'll have to wait 2015, but it's already something! The wait is killing me but I can survive  :D
My family started to embrace this topic a little bit more, and even though I still get off a mean vibe from them, they're improving. My brother is calling me 'Adolf' as a joke, my dad... I don't really know about him but he embraces my choice to look a therapist, and my mother talked about my situation with a few people. She had to go to a dentist a couple of days ago, and when the dentist called me her son, she corrected him and said "She's my daughter, or maybe not, son is ok". She's been talking to me about transsexuals and she dragged me into a clothing shop and into the guys' part. I ended up buying something simple but it's better than nothing!
Where I am right now everyone is so much more open minded than where I lived before. Everyone calls me Chris (or at least they try to) and I feel like I can be myself freely now.
All I have to wait is for my first appointment now and hope that I'm not just 'self-diagnosed', since I've always felt like a guy after all.
Something that really bothers me is my future financial situation. I'm not sure how it works here in Germany, who has to pay for hormones and surgeries; could someone who lives/has lived in Germany (or someone who knows) explain how it works? That'd be a great help!

Congratulations on your progress and all the changes. I think being trans is one area where it's okay to self-diagnose, but it's still important to get therapy so it's cool that's on the horizon. I dunno about healthcare in Germany. That might depend at least partly on what country you came from and who you work for.

It's good to hear things are going well for you! I sadly have no knowledge about medical finances in Germany but I hope someone has an answer for you!

Chris, PM me if you like - I'm in Germany. I'm still figuring this stuff out myself (how to get coverage etc.) but maybe we can help each other :)

Thanks guys!
I looked up a self-support group around where I live and there's some info about all of this. Apparently hormones and basic surgeries (so the chest, ovaries and genitals ones I'm guessing) can be free, but I still didn't quite understand for whom. I might call the group or just show up during their next meeting, maybe...
