Hi everyone,

so, for a while now, I've been learning more about how to present as female (I am not living full-time, and am pre-hrt, though I have just begun to get laser on my facial hair), and when I wear my hair down, I usually feel relatively good about my ability to pass at a glance, unless I have to speak. When I wear my hair up in any style, though, I tend to feel like my face suddenly looks far more masculine. No doubt the hair framing my face softens it a bit, but I'm always dismayed when I see myself with my hair up-particularly from the sides, less so from the front. Does this happen to anyone else? It's bad enough for me that I feel scared to tie my hair up at any point when I go out presenting as female, for fear that I will be read much more easily, yet I would like to be able to wear my hair up sometimes, particularly when it gets too hot here in Florida.

Does anyone else have this problem?
"The time will come / when, with elation / you will greet yourself arriving / at your own door, in your own mirror / and each will smile at the other's welcome, / and say, sit here. Eat. / You will love again the stranger who was your self./ Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart / to itself, to the stranger who has loved you / all your life, whom you ignored" - Walcott, "Love after Love"

Funny, I had the opposite problem at first, always had to tie my hair back when I was out in public. Over time though I got more used to the way it looked down and now that's the way I wear it most of the time. Might change for you over time.

Similar climate,  same problem.  Unless I absolutely had to I hated tying my hair back no matter how hot it was outside.  Yet some of my most surprising passes (pre hrt) had been with my hair tyed back.

Have a look at the girls around your age group and see how they're wearing their hair.  It is hard but confidence in ourselves is half the battle, how you feel is how you present yourself to the world.

I used to feel that way until I finally had my hairline completely back. I'd say trying using a cute scarf or headbands to minimize the stronger features of your face.

I wear my hair pulled back like this that way the front is still down and keeps me from spazzin out.
