I swear there is also some vanity sizing going on in women's shoes, as my wife wears the same size in men's as she did ten years ago but is a full size smaller in her favorite women's shoes.

(Though I'm still convinced I did lose a shoe size, because I bought a couple pairs pre-HRT that are too big now, as are my old men's boots.)

A lot depends on the brand. I have a pair of men's asics that are 11.5 and a brand new pair of womens that are 12's

Shantel, are you sure about this?  I used to wear a 5 1/2 or 6 in men's shoes, but I've never come close to buying a 7 1/2 or an 8 in women's.  Sizes vary a lot, depending on the manufacturer, but the biggest size I've ever bought was a 6.  I've bought 5 and 5 1/2, and recently actually bought a pair of ankle boots that were a 4.

Nothing like trying them on before you buy.  It's for this reason that I'd never buy shoes on line.

I dunno hon, that's how it seems to work for me. I recently bought a pair of Josef Seibel women's sandals and only went one size up because sandals seem to stretch. I did buy some women's mules in size 11 and should have gotten 10 as I have room at the heel. I have some women's Propet ankle boots in 11 that fit perfectly, they are French made in China naturally. Then I have a whole collection of women's Clarks in 11. I am one person that can't stand to have my toes crowded though. I've seen shoes on women's feet that looked painful. Long story short two sizes was the general advice I got from a woman's shoe department sales person.

Well, OK, this is the first I've heard of it.  But if it works for some people, go for it.  I will say, though, it seems to me that sizes in women's shoes vary a lot more than in men's shoes.  With men's I always knew that with a 5 1/2 or a 6 I'd be OK.  But women's sizes seem to be all over the place.

Well they sure do, try on one Mfg's bra and then another, one fits perfectly the next has room for extra boobage and the cups are loose.

Truer words were never spoken.  That's right up there with, "If you think you understand quantum physics, then you don't understand quantum physics."

Maybe that's what manufacturers are into these days: quantum bras.

I´m 5' 10'' tall, shoe size 10, 10 1/2 (US) - 41/42 (EUR) and 75 kg  (I guess roundabout 165 lbs).

Not unnormal here in Western Europe. I see taller girls every day :)

5'11" here (6'0" if I stretch my body :P ).  Glad to see this isn't too abnormal - I was worrying because a lot of girls I know are shorter than me (most are in the 5'7" kinda area).  Thanks for making me feel a little more normal lol! :D ♥︎*Hugs*♥︎

Erm, as far as I know, nothing can change your height hun, I'm sorry to say :(  Maybe you'll loose half an inch or so due to muscle and/or fat redistribution, but it won't change your bones. ♥︎*Hugs*♥︎

I'm in the mid 5'7" range and my shoe size is 9US/7UK. It's not too bad of a height. I'm still one of the tallest in my family. My (fraternal twin) brother is the only one that is around my height. I get a little of jealous of the shorter ladies here.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but, estrogen actually tends to make it harder to lose weight.

It does make it harder to lose fat. But in my two months I've lost 6kg, of what I assume is mainly muscle, and have dropped from  70 kg to 64. Depending on your body type some of us actually do lose weight on hrt ;)
Just we don't lose fat :P

FYI to everyone interested, muscle volume = 1/3 of fat volume per pound. So Jo has lost a lot of muscle mass on HRT.

If you don't mind me asking where do you find shoes

Payless sometimes has a small selection, but I most of my shoes I purchase from Globe Shoes (local for me in NJ) and the have a website. Just google "Globe Shoe NJ" and it will be the first link since we're not allowed to post links to businesses on this forum. I've also purchased a few pairs at Long Tall Sally (also great for clothes)

All this talk of shoe size has made me curious what the actual size of my feet are. Where am I supposed to measure from and how does that correlate to women's shoe sizes? I've only ever worn men's, and being poor, I stick with one pair until they completely wear out and I'm forced to buy another. I don't think any of the sizes have been consistent.

There is a foot measuring device at Kohls and it told me I am actually a size 11 or about 10.8 yet I have found shoes from 10-12 women's that fit even though the majority that fit are 11 which is what my size should be. I found lots of shoes that didn't fit trying to use the male size plus two.

I wanted to be able to visualize the data curve better so I passed the numbers through an online chart builder.  This is with 225 reporting.  Click the image to enlarge:

Overall you can see a pretty typical curve.  Weird that three of the heights are strongly underrepresented in the trend -  5'6", 5'9" and 6'1" please come out of hiding!  I am updating the chart image as more data points come in.  The new data is falling perfectly in line with the trend.

It's also apparent someone needs to start another thread with a shoe size poll, given the 'trending' drift off topic! ;)

I have to post this funny tall girl thing that happened to me today:

I went into Walgreens earlier this even to pick up a few things (my wife and I were have a Chocolate craving and we had none in the house.) Keep in mind that I'm 6'7" and I was wearing 2 1/2 inch heels. There was a long line at the checkout and I went to pickup a hand basket that is kept at the end of the checkout line. This 50 year old guy who was maybe 5'8" says "My God your a tall Woman!! What are you, 7 feet tall???" in a extremely loud voice. Everyone just stopped and turned at my direction and looked in amazement. I just smiled and said, I'm only 6'7". (I was extremely confident in this situation and wasn't nervous at all.) He then asked if I played basketball. I said know, but I loved Volleyball. He said, "You probably don't even have to jump to get over the net." Then he walked away and I continued my shopping without incident.
