Hi everyone.

As you know Dr Ousterhout is retiring in August and I'll be one of the last to see him. I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has had surgery with him recently. He's in his late 70s but from what I hear, still fit and vigorous. I spoke with a doctor on another board who said that with doctors, experience was more important than age. I'd really like to hear of any recent experiences. I can only do this once, and it's my life savings. I liked him a lot when he came over to England a few years ago, but I'd like to be as sure as I can.

Thanks for anyone who can help.

I had my trach shave with him in Feb of 2013. I was floored with his bedside manner. Just a magnificent person :) The main reasons I decided not to have him perform full FFS on me was due to cost & the amount of things he wanted to do- I didn't think I needed that much.

He may be old and about to retire, but I would trust him completely. Still you have to understand that there are always risks, but you're in excellent hands in my opinion.

Best of luck with your surgery :)

I too was really keen on him when I started research and then found out he only had a few spaces available before retirement. He still quoted me about £26,000 in February just for jaw/chin and forehead.. not sure if this is normal but I go the impression they just want as much money as possible before he retires.  His book is very good possibly a bit bias towards open techniques but its mainly aimed at what you should look for in an FFS surgeon rather than all about his work, so it will still be good after he retires for anyone undecided on a surgeon or on ffs.

Anyway I chose Dr Zukowski as i don't actually need dramatic bone work done, even if i did i still think he can take off just as much if not more bone than with open techniques, just from my research, and also the price played a huge factor!

I am having surgery with him in late June.  :) When I met him, I was floored by his demeanor and professionalism. He was so thorough. I cannot wait to have him operate on me. I am scared, but I know I am in good hands!

Thanks to Jennygirl, Angel202 and Vogueharlow, I feel a lot better going to him now. As an older woman I do seem to pass, but I wanted a surgeon who would not hold back if it was needed to get a good result. Many of the other results I've seen are quite subtle, particularly on older women.

Vogueharlow, do you mind if I stay in touch with you through your surgery? I can't imagine any more up to date feedback than that and it would really help me. My date is in July. I'm not sure how personal messages work on this board though. Any ideas?

Hi Vogueharlow.

The mod says I need to make 15 substantial posts before I can message, so talking to each other is probably not possible. Will you be posting here to tell us how you get on?

I just had a trachea shave with him on May 13th, and I had no clue he was about to retire until my electrologist told me when I went in for my first visit yesterday.  Check this link out if you haven't already:

As someone who works in the medical field I found his personality quite refreshing. Mira was so great too and can tell you pretty much anything you need to know about SF (where to go, eat, avoid, shop) ^_^

PS: I didn't really have any pain afterwards, maybe a 1 or 2 on the pain scale. But Mira told me that thats quite common with Dr. O.  For some reason he knows right where to cut and work without the body thinking that its in pain.

Dr. Ousterhout is Amazing, his hands are guided by angels . I am very happy with my results (Forehead III/Brow lift/ Hairline/ Rhinoplasty)  :)
You are a composite of all the things you believe, and all the places you believe you can go. Your past does not define you. You can step out of your history and create a new day for yourself. Even if the entire culture is saying, "You can't." Even if every single possible bad thing that can happen to you does. You can keep going forward.

I would not go see Dr O for anything.
First reason being is he does have quite the list of
Mess ups. Second being just because he invented
Ffs does not mean hes the best. Like all inventions
Its all the others following who improve upon.
If your that rich I would go to facial team

It depends on the patient... if you need really aggressive work to be completed then Ousterhout may be the appropriate choice. There is also DiMaggio and Dr. Bart who are known for aggressive work. I ended up going to Dr. Cardenas in Guadalajara, Mexcio and was happy with the results and care that I received.  Is it worth 40k to see Ousterhout?...  It's up to you but that is a lot of money and you can get just as good results and level of care elsewhere. Money aside you have to feel comfortable with your choice. For example, I consulted with Dr. Bart in Belgium but ultimately I didn't feel he was for me, even though he's put out some really great work. All the best! -J

UPDATE:

I had full FFS with Dr. O in 2005 and he did a wonderful job. But just for the hell of it (not really), i decided to go back for improvement two weeks ago and believe that i may be the first patient to have had sugary with Dr. Deschamps-Braly assisted my Dr. O. It was an ELEVEN hour surgery and the results are incredible!  You can message me if you would like to know more.
