Issues with Transparent

I haven't seen the show so I don't know if what I'm about to say is even relevant at all, but I'll throw it out there anyways. As an asexual transguy myself, if I ever buy something that's main focus will be for sex, it's not going to be what I want, it's going to be what my girlfriend (or maybe boyfriend) wants. I don't care honestly about a dildo because sex isn't my thing, so if my girlfriend wants a bright pink unrealistic dildo, that's what I'll get. Sex would be for her, not for me, so the dildo is for her, not me.
Then again if this guy is super into sex, what I've said is probably completely irrelevant. If HE'S the one wanting a dildo for sex, then that is a little strange.

Yes, that's how the scene went. He wanted her to pick the one that "spoke to her" the most. Actually, I found it kind of hilarious. Also, I would have absolutely chosen a dildo called "magical unicorn" (or whatever it was) for myself.

Edited to include my opinion...sorry, my partner was giving me the evil eye for still using his computer, and he wanted to play LoL.

The characters ARE uncomfortably unlikeable, and the humor is really awkward, and the overabundance of nudity/sex seems immature or gimmicky. However, I read each character's actions and flaws as parts of that character. I'm glad they were portrayed as individual people, not as poster children for the entire community they were representative of.

Whether you like the show or not is ok. Not everybody is going to like it. I liked it a lot, but wouldn't try to convince someone who doesn't that they should try to like it a little more, because the things I mentioned above will turn off some people. I do think it's silly to take some of the criticisms here and go "Well that's proof that I shouldn't watch this show," which is how some of these replies are going. Maura (the transwoman) was cast very well, in my opinion.

Never seen Transparent but saw OITNB first season and some of the second. They actually cast Laverne Cox because she has a cis twin brother. He has played her pre-transition. They have back stories on all the cast so she is not in any way singled out. I think she is a very sympathetic character and they don't overdo sex organs in any way, from any episode I've seen, I mean more than other characters. Lots of sex in that show. LOL

I never had any problem with OITNB. The trans aspect is only minor except for in one episode, and is handled sensitively, not just in the script, but also when filming the director never wanted to trigger Laverne Cox by making her play pre-transition her. Then again if you don't like graphic stuff, even between cis people you might want to rethink.

As for Transparent I tried watching half the pilot, it made no sense at all and watched Derren Brown instead, much better entertainment! I disliked it from the credits though, it was that typical purple old-style trans stuff that I don't find gives off the right impression. It put me off this site to begin with.
