So there's this music subgenre/culture, I'm not too sure, but it's essentially J-rock as to where each member dresses flamboyantly, and in some cases is straight up crossdressing, and perform their music in a way as to provide a "shock" as it was described when it originated in the 1980's.

Examples:

Heartless - "Masquerade"

spiv states - "FLAVOR"

LM.C - "Punky ❤ Heart"

Personally I really like what artists like these are doing when it comes to music and the media. I feel it brings a "You can do whatever you want, jump for it!" sense to people especially the easily impressionable such as a person like me, and it's really cool to see stuff like this happen.
Seventeen and strung out on confusion,
Seventeen and coming clean for the first time,
no mom and dad will never understand,
what's happening to me.

Sure!  Dir En Grey started out as Visual Kei before they morphed into more or less standard issue metal and achieved international success.

Yeah, I like quite a few bands in that style, although most of them are a bit older, have changed with time or just aren't around anymore. Some faves include - X-Japan, Malice Mizer, Dir en Grey, Luna Sea, L'Arc-en-Ciel, Kuroyume, Versailles.... Reminds me that I need to catch up on that particular scene. :)
