NJ area surgeons

Does anyone know of/have experience with any surgeons in New Jersey? I can't afford to travel too far but there don't seem to be a whole lot of well-known surgeons in this area. Looking into it, I've come across one surgeon in East Brunswick, Dr. Boris Volshteyn, but I haven't come across any reviews or anything for him. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I did, thanks for posting though. I have been looking for info on the surgeons listed on the site but I can't seem to find much so far, aside from what's on their respective websites. I'm hoping someone around here has some experience with any of them.

There's the Mazzoni center in PA and rockmore in Albany, but that really depends on where you are in NJ if they'd work for ya :/

I didn't know about Rockmore. It looks like there are some good reviews around of him so I will definitely consider him. He is certainly within driving distance. Thanks for the heads up.

I don't know where you are in NJ, but there is Rumer in PA.  Personally, I would stay away from Leis in Philadelphia.  Beverly Fischer in Timonium, MD has been doing top surgery since the last 90's.  I met her, very nice.  If I didn't go to Garramone in FL, I would have gone to Fischer.

chipper went to Rockmore, and would be fine with a private message, I bet.  I can't remember the name of the guy who went to Rumer, but he wrote in the top surgery recovery thread (the sticky at top of top surgery section).  Both were happy with their respective surgeon's work.  I met Rumer and in fact she was kind enough to check out my top surgery scars (I wanted to confirm my scaring was hypertrophic and not keloid) when I saw her at a conference.

devention, Mazonni Center doesn't do surgery.  Mazonni is an outpatient clinic where you can get primary medical care/hormones and mental health care.

I went to Rumer in Ardmore PA right outside of Philly. I live in NJ myself. Her results are good and I'm happy with mine and her and her staff are nice and respectful. You can do a phone/skype consult for free with her if you want to check her out.

I agree with you on Dr Leis. I have heard that this doctor was quoted as pretty much dissing trans people saying he doesn't believe they exist or something (yet makes his money off them, yikes).
Dr McGinn is the other PA surgeon, btw. I've heard she's very intolerant re: overweight, BMI. (Ex Navy always Navy )

I have a friend that sees Dr McGinn for T, and went to Dr Garramone for top surgery. So she does some of the other trans stuff. Papillon Center is a private center/clinic though. Not sure  re: Mazzoni whether its public or private. But it is a huge center for LGBT health. But they do not do surgery. They run the Philly Trans Health Conference, which is a a fantastic event.

Cost is whatever copay is for a regular primary doc visit (in/out of network).  There is a Walgreen attached to their center where you can get your hormones cheap. Cheaper than that mail order pharmacy everyone uses - the one that starts with an S.
Mazonni Center opened up in 1979 and exclusively treats the LGBT community.

This Walgreens does very cheap compounding so you can get compounded cream really inexpensively and also takes insurance (most compounding pharmacies don't take insurance). This friend of mine uses them. I think you are thinking Stroheckers, Brett.

It says LGBT. Though I suppose if someone went in, they are not going to question it. The seem to have a very large women's services, but of course women can be LBT.

Well, yeah the L = lesbian (typically women).  Like Jay said though, I am sure they are not going to turn you away if you are straight.  It was interesting to hear from a doc there that 30% of the people treated are transgender.  The number was higher than I expected.  I wish I lived close enough that I could use them as my primary care physicians.

Yes, it is Stroheckers.  Mazonni actually has a price list for their patrons that compare the prices between the two.
