From what I can find, Indiana requires an irreversible surgery in order to obtain a court order to change gender. It doesn't specify which surgery, just that it must be irreversible. I had a hysto which I would assume qualifies as such. I'm having a hard time finding a sample petition that I can fill out and file. I've also had a hard time finding a sample letter from a surgeon so that I can make sure I get what I need for court.

Any help? Thanks in advance.

Hi steadias, first off, welcome to Susan's Place! We have a complete documentation change section of the Wiki for this.

I know your letter needs the irreversible language included, let me see if I can find something.

Hello!!!! I'm a fellow Hoosier too :)

Yes, unfortunately Indiana don't recognize us as our true genders until we had SRS :\ .  They are very strict when it comes to gender changes markers on IDs and must be documented that you had SRS.  My best bet would be to ask a therapist, and I know a real good one in Indianapolis if you need her contact.

I'll be moving out of Indiana next year into PA, which just requires my therapist to sign off on it which will enable me to have my gender marker changed from M to F.

Take care and hope we get to chat up more!

Thanks, Devlyn. It's frustrating how difficult it is to find this type of information. I appreciate you taking the time.

Thank you, Alexis. I haven't seen anywhere that it requires a specific surgery to change legal gender here. But I have seen that it has to be changed in the state in which you were born. I hope that it will work out for you though! Good luck in PA.

Thanks for your reply!
