The Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Affairs (LGBT), in
conjunction with Transgendered Health Empowerment, Transgendered
Education Association and other community based organizations will
be organizing some events to help the transgendered community find jobs in
the fall of 2007.
The purpose of these events will be to bring together representatives of
government agencies, corporations and private businesses with interests in the
District together with members of the District's transgendered community for
the expressed purpose of finding jobs and job training opportunities for them.
The first event is a Career Day workshop that will take place on Saturday
August 18, 2007, from 1 pm to 6 pm in the 2nd Floor Community Room of the Reeves

workshops focused on resume writing, completing the DC 2000 application,
interviewing 101, and tips on dressing for success. Additionally, there will be
information on how to access employment services and vocational rehab. The
event will conclude with a presentation by members of the community who have
been successful and a general overview of jobs that are available.

Southern Comfort Conference Transgender Career Expo
From Kristin Reichman:
Greetings,
Once again, I am pleased to announce the First Annual Transgender Career
Expo sponsored by SCC, in partnership with Human Rights Campaign, has
drawn an unprecedented and truly historic number of companies and
organizations to our conference. We have well over 20 major
participants (more than is listed on the web site) and we are expecting
this to be an event unlike any other that SCC has offered.
Please be sure to spread the word to promote and support this
extraordinary event. It is critical that we, as a community, step up and
create our own place in the world just as these companies have stepped
up to the realization that hiring and retaining quality employees is
based upon talent and abilities and that being Transgender is irrelevant.
Below you will find a list of those businesses and organizations we
expect will be participating. Please come prepared to talk with the
people who represent these companies and find out what they do and what
their stance is on being Transgender in the workplace. Some will have
actual HR Recruiting Managers present while others will simply be
sending representatives as a show of support and to supply information.
The Career Expo will run from 9:00AM until 4:00PM on Friday, September
14th (closed during lunch). This is an open event sponsored by SCC and
HRC and one need not be registered for the conference to gain value from
this function.
Our current list of participating Companies and Organizations (subject
to change):

American Airlines

Thanks,
Sincerely,
Annagirl
