A week ago I had my surgery. I recovered quickly, they said they never seen such speedy recovery. Until they removed the drains, catheter, bandages and stitches. I went to the toilet, and I could not pee. I was scared! I tried ten times to pee. I could not. My surgeon told me that the area around the catheter was darkred/black, and still very bloated, hematoma and apparently it blocks the urinal tract somehow.

So... he then said: we need to put the catheter back in! omg... you got to be kidding me... I was so glad that it was gone, and now it has to get back in. Well, they did it. And now I walk with a short catheter and a valve to relieve myself every 2 hours. I need to carry it for a week, and then the surgeon will move the catheter.

It really brought me to tears knowing that I still not functioning the way it should. I was so scared...  :'(

Does anyone have any expiernce with this?

I know a few girls who went home with there catheter due to swelling.

All had removed when they where told and no issues.

Swelling is a side effect of surgery.

Relax, do what your told to help get your swelling in control.

Thanks Izzy! I got pretty depressed about it. Let's hope for the best.

Yep, we had those "mobility catheters" (=no bag, you have to empty your bladder yourself) after day 2 post-op, and also I was there with another girl who needed it reinserted. She wasn't *happy,* but it was fine. :)

Now I wonder about dilation. Surgeon said he would dilate me next week, to teach me. Is this because of the catheter? Everywhere I read that dilating should begin right after unpacking.

PinkCloud : It sounds like there's a surgeon or two out there who likes to wait longer; I'm not sure why, but I trust in their expertise.

Brassard definitely had us dilating as soon as the packing was out, and yes, that included doing so with the catheter still in if need be. (It's more fun with it out, but didn't interfere with dilation for us. However, a different surgeon might have a different technique or just a different opinion.)

He dilated me and looked with a speculum. But I didn't see it. Well, I gave him an e-mail just to be sure. I can't even see where I need to dilate, it's weird looking right now. Black stuff around the catheter. I could not even douche myself further than 4cm before it went painful. Tried to douche it but it failed, so I cleaned the area with the syringe and await further instructions.
