Would an OB/GYN be able to administer HRT to a transitioning MtF? Would this even be recommended? I'm curious because I think that may be one of my only options at present.. Does anyone here have an OB/GYN treating them? Thanks, friends!

Hi ASoulBird,

My doctor that I use for my HRT is a OB/GYN who became involved with HRT back in the 90s due to treating Trans-individuals who unfortunately had AIDS(He is also a infectious disease expert) and he wanted to do more to assist the community (Great Doctor, Wonderful Guy).

I wouldn't say it recommended to go to a OB/GYN over a endocrinologist, however if the OB/GYN has experience helping Trans individuals and is versed in Hormone Therapy for transitions then yeah I say go for it.

Yes my doc is an OB/GYN... He isnt very experienced with MTF HRT but he has 30+ years experience with cis women...  I will need more than HRT from him eventually so I think its good to have a doc/patient relationship in place ;)

Thanks everyone! The reason I was even curious is due to the fact that my mother is undergoing HRT since her hysterectomy and I just thought "..hmmm..... maybe?" I will talk to her about this and see if she thinks her OB/GYN would even think of helping a transwoman. Couldn't hurt to ask!
