M2F HRT question

So today I started HRT...spironolactone, Finasteride, and estradiol.  I went to the pharmacy and they said my doctor needed to give pre authorization for the finasteride.  I called doctor and they said nurse will take care of it and takes up to 72 hours for insurance to deny or accept.  So my question is, if for whatever reason insurance denies finasteride, is it really important?  I have everything else... I know I should ask my doctor, but I won't see him for another month.. I am just wondering if finasteride is a usual drug for HRT... I've read online it helps with male baldness, which I don't have at all... my hair growing fine and beautifully 🙂

My doctor only gave me Spiro and Estradiol. We didn't do finasteride.

Some doctors do prescribe it, but many cases its because of hair loss and were wanting to block DHT. I'm on the more potent version which dutasteride. Only in the last 7 days did I finally get put on Spiro after already being on Estradiol for over a month already at that point.

I myself am on estradiol and Spyro as stated above, it is usually prescribed for the hair loss and to lower DHT it really doesn't add any more feminizing qualities to it other than help, and the stop future hair loss. Thank you so much Melissa and it does help.  It seems it isn't required and not sure why it needs pre authorization.  I was figuring the estradiol would be before medication for baldness.  Well, either way, I won't worry as it appears others aren't taking it.  If insurance authorizes it, then I'll take it but just got an email from Walgreens that it's an $83.99 pill if I want to pay for it out right, and for the moment I don't see it necessary to pay that much.

I just typed Finasteride into goodrx and it shows it only being $10.00 at Walgreens and $9.00 at Wa-Mart for the generic.

I wonder if I can get the generic.  If my insurance denies this for whatever reason, I don't see why they should, I will ask my doctor about this.  Thanks for the tip!
