It took about 4-5 sessions of laser before I really noticed a difference. Sessions 6 - 12 were the ones that cleared the dark hair.

I still have a fair amount of gray/white hairs remaining that i'll need electro for. I can only feel them and they generally don't show during the day so I can get electro done at my convenience.

Just got off the phone with a dermatologist that was recommended to me by my Therapist.

I'm scheduled for a Laser consultation (Free) next Tuesday. She told me she needed to see my face, hair density, skin tone, hair colors and go from there.

I'm excited.  ;D

I wonder how much I should let my face grow out?

Edit: Oh btw...What about Nose hair? How do you all deal with that? I really hate it when it grows out, so gross.  I tweeze my nose hair often and it makes tears flow.  ???

Ive never heard of people doing lasers for nose hair i could imagine that being an extreemely painful

Ask the laser tech about letting hair grow out; mine did NOT want that, and in fact recommended I shave as close as possible right before.

My nose hair, oddly enough, faded back to female levels on HRT. :) I think a lot of laser places won't do anywhere "inside a body part," either.

I've had four IPL sessions and the results have been pretty good. Whilst there's no beard shadow anymore, it did uncover a discoleration under the moustache area which kind of looks like a slice moustache shadow, only slight.

So we have to laser/scrape/grind, in fact anything to get rid of it. I'm also looking into a top lip transplant which may do the trick  ::)

But seriously the visual effect of IPL was great, after 24 hrs I run my hand over my face and can feel hair growing, but very lightly. Starting laser in two weeks and will continue that under all is smooth.

I noticed significant reduction after two to three treatments, and now after six (I think), I only have some small patches left under my nose and on my chin. I'll probably have one more treatment, then go on to electro to remove the stragglers.

mine wanted me to shave preferably the night before. She wanted shirt as possible, but not do recent to cause the skin to get more irritated from the laser.

I got a deal on groupon for 6 laser sessions on my face using a modern laser for $119. After that deal was done I bought a package deal that included 6 more seasons of both the face and the neck for $200. Pricing is going to depend on where you live; I live in the Los Angeles area in California and there is plenty of competition driving down prices here.

8 laser sessions later and my upper lip is finally cleared completely. I haven't shaved in about a week so I know for sure the hairs are gone. I do have some white fuzzy hairs and a few tiny black hairs left in certain spots but those are gonna fall out soon. My chin is mostly cleared, and I still have a few small patches on my jaw line. The chin and jawline are the most stubborn areas for me. After my next session those areas should be completely cleared. I think it's going to be my last laser appointment  :)

I am thinking about starting laser hair removal and im just curious how much of a difference the first couple sessions make.

Hey sweetie -- good question I think... I did start laser hair removal last month and it took about a week and I noticed not having to shave as much.  Prior of my laser visit, I was shaving twice a day.  After my laser visit, I had to let it "grow" or fall out more, for about a week... prior to shaving had any real effect again.  Then, I started to shave upward motions instead of down ward motions, now I am only shaving once a day... and in the morning, my facial hair is slightly stubbie... I go again in 11 days... I still see black 5 o'clock shadow even when smooth, but now I use makeup to cover it up and it's gone... before laser, this NEVER would work.  Think it was because my hair on my face growing so quickly I couldn't get it in otherwise.   BTW I have dark hair and pale like skin.

I paid £180 for my first session at the "one off" rate and am intending to buy into a package of 6 at 30% discount now i know my face isn't going to fall off three days after, additional sessions after the package are also supposed to be at the 30% discount rate.

As for shaving, on my test patch i had a normal guy mode shave, once over with an "in use" razor, kind of took some care but not excessive.  Test patch was my upper lip and it hurt like hell in my cupids bow area and came with the smell of singed hair.  On reflection and looking in the mirror (sorry) after it was obvious my shave in that area was quite poor and the pain was from the burning of the badly shaved hair in the hollow.   You can bet for my first session it was the best closest shave with a new razor i could muster as close to treatment as possible without drawing blood or major irritation, Thoroughly inspected and electric shaved some tricky wet shave areas too.   It still hurt like hell on the jaw line and chin but less singeing.

You do get to the end of the session wondering how mad you are to put up with someone inflicting that pain on you, and worse your paying them a lot of money to do it, but the stories on here of a hair free face give hope it will be worth it in the end and after one treatment i feel my makeup stands up better through the day and photos of 2 days growth whilst still not very ladylike do show a less dense regrowth and patchiness (not in a weird way thankfully)

Alexis, Glad it wasn't just me then.   My shaving experience in the first week sounds pretty similar too, kind of hard to get a good shave and being very careful with the bumps from the irritation, but after a week it settled and now where i would have 5 o'clock shadow by 11am and makeup failure, i can get through to mid afternoon without much of a tidy up,  the shadow doesnt look any less really just that it takes longer to grow.

I also discovered what the max AC setting in the car was for and directed all available vents to my face on the drive home, much to the annoyance of my SO who had them set up not to blow on her face lol

My face lasering was purchased in a six-treatment package.  Four down, and the "goatee" area is still fairly dark.  I don't think two more sessions will be enough.  I had planned, if six sessions didn't work, to go for electrolysis instead, but recent posts suggest that there's a chance six more sessions (a total of 12) on the upper lip and chin might finally do some clearing.  I was under the impression that if hair wasn't cleared in six, it wasn't worth continuing.  Am I mistaken?  (I'd rather pay for six more laser sessions than electrolysis).

Hey Brenda - hang in there!! If you got dark hairs and light skin, should be fine.  My doctor who does my laser said it will take roughly 8 sessions for the lip and beard growth to stop.  My therapist said 12 sessions (a year).  Personally, I would give 6 more sessions a go.  I plan to already once I get these 6 out of the way.

Yep I was the same way with pain from laser. I literately cried through all of my sessions, I think the 5th one was the worst next to the first one. I had a really bad shadow so no matter how close I shaved it was going to be painful. It didn't start getting better pain wise because each time I asked my doc to increase the intensity on the machine, so I was gradually going higher each session. It's given me amazing results so far, however it's definitely one of the worst pains I've ever endured in my lifetime.

Yea, shave it all off.  Hurts less.  Same effect.

No way for nose hairs -- not sure why that was even suggested.  You're best to take care of that on your own.

My boyfriend says it's a lot like getting a tattoo when I explained to him what it's like.  high5 for tolerating it.  My doc put it on high too... I found during the session it helps to just take your mind else where, like to the beach on a stormy night..... because with all that light flickering through your skin to your eyes, that's what it looks like!!! :)
