You've lived with a suffix for quite a while, so you probably know the issues. But since you're changing you're name, just a reminder: The US State department (passports), the US Social Security Administration, and the 50 state departments of motor vehicles have slightly different ideas about what a name is; some of them think a suffix is part of a name, some don't (or don't think it is worth keeping track of). If you ever have to have something notarized, some notaries think whatever ID card you present must exactly agree with the document you are signing about what the suffix is (or the absence of a suffix). Some aren't that fussy. I don't know about you, but I really hate last-minute surprises when I'm trying to transact some business. If I were to give a child a name in today's environment, the name would not include a suffix.
