So I wrote an exam today, and we all have to have our student cards out on the table for when the invigilators walk past. My picture on my student card is still of when I was in guy mode at the start  of this year.

So when the person walks by my table she frowns at the card and looks at it for like ten seconds and then looks at me and asks me "who is this person?" I said it's me and she looked at it for a while more and then said she's going to show the card to my lecturer and I said that's fine.

She came back and just nodded to say it's sorted. Then after that the same thing happened with another invigilator. I didn't know if I should be flattered or not and I was busy with a difficult question so this issue started messing with my brain. Then after I was done they called me aside and the main person who handles student card stuff during exam talked to me.

She was quite nice and also asked me if I'm the person in the picture and I said yes to her too. She told me I should rather write my next three exam papers in a separate room so that there won't be such problems again.

I don't know why but I thought they would be able to see it's me in the picture, I mean I still look more or less the same to myself. I should really get my ID changed to female so I can change my student card . Although it's flattering in a way that it happened, it's also quite embarrassing.

Well, congratulations  :). And I agree  -You should change Your ID if You can :). At first, those social situations when Your image and ID mismatch are kinda fun, but the novelty grows old and it becomes annoying.

Yes you're absolutely right Emily. It happened once before when I had to go for blood tests for hormones and I was flattered then but now it isn't fun anymore.

Or she could tell her invigilators that she has verified you are the person on your ID, that there's no identification issue, and they are not to challenge you again.  Putting you in a separate room?  Seems a rather odd (and insulting?) way to resolve a rather simple problem - although a nice, quiet, private room for taking exams would be pretty cool.

Of course, if you actually look different from the photo on your ID on a regular basis, it's best to change your ID.  The whole point of a photo ID is so that there's no question of your identity, not to raise questions.  I have the same problem with a passport - I'm routinely questioned about whether it's me in the photo or not, so I guess I should get it changed.

Also consider just getting your cards photo updated next year when you register for your next year of study, I will have to as I am going to get my gender marker changed over December so they will have to reissue me a new card due to my ID number changing.

Problem resolved :D.

Damned ID -.-, my passport was not updated and I was refused to take my plane, more they did call the police for passport steal -.- .
Everything ended up fine but well it was embarrasing as hell.

As Brenda mentionned, the fact to put you in a separated room sound like they don't want to mix you with the others.. ?

I was lucky because my passport expired this September and I got a fresh one with more or less up-to-date picture (previous one had my pic of 10 years ago, so You can probably imagine...). Still, when I went to vote, the lady initially thought that it is my husband's passport, so I had to drop down my voice really low... yeah, it was awkward, not that much embarassing anymore but rather annoying, because she kept apologising.

I was keeping a photocopy of my legal name change court documentation handy but I am now at the point where all my photo ids match how I look. I still keep a photocopy of the court document handy because not every account has yet changes (despite having sent letters) but those are less an issue.

In school where your id may be challenged frequently, and based on your avatar photo, I would say it's time for you to get a new id. I do not see any "guy" there at all. :)

They can't do that though can they. Just saying that person doesn't look like their ID but do not challenge them a good invigilator does not make :P

I am with Liz, if it is annoying you, request a new one. You still have most of this year left.

I eradicated everything from my past persona within a few months. I am sure there are still ghosts in the data floating around in various databases though and when I uncover them they too will be sealed, deleted or vanish in some way whether it's through a court order or whatever.

I'm down with the "nothin but girl" comments, change the ID, and, wtf regarding the separation zone... Regardless, you look great! Congrats!

If the profile picture is one of you then I can see why they would think you're not the 'male' student on the id card. Definitely passing :D
