I went for my biennial eye check today, my vision has been a bit blurry for the last six months with my glasses on but seems better without them.
I have been short sighted in my left eye and long sighted in my right for years and it has been stable for the last 10 years. I also have astigmatism in the left that contributes to the short sightedness. Pressure has also been slightly high and so I am at risk of glaucoma.
So I'm a good girl and get screened regularly.
Today. Left eye, near normal, slight long sight, no evidence of astigmatism. Right eye, normal vision no evidence of long site. Pressure at 12 in both eyes, normal. No evidence of macular degeneration, no evidence of glaucoma. Retinal photos look normal and different to previous form 4 years ago.
Oh this is odd says the optician and repeats the whole lot of tests, refers to all of my notes.
You still need glasses for reading (great new lenses and I'm broke). But your sight has vastly improved and the reason it has been blurry is that your existing lenses are way too much for you.
We discuss what may have happened and I tell him that I have been hormonally reassigned and there is a visible difference in my face from prior to HRT. I show him a pic of 'him'.
Optician sits down and says OMG looking at the pre pic and me sitting in front of him.
We suggest - with no science- that my drastic reduction in blood pressure due to spiro and muscular changes and fat distribution in my face due to E, may have altered my sight.
I haven't heard of this before, and I am the first transwoman that he is aware of as a client that he has seen, so he isn't aware of it either.
Eyes do change he says, but I'm not use to this sort of change.
Anyone else heard of this?
It may of course be nothing to do with it. But I have never had an improvement in my sight before, just gradual deterioration.
