My hardcore, conservative LGBTetc hating Mormon sister posted a link to her FB wall:  https://www.lifesitenews.com/petitions/defend-the-duggar-family  She posted no additional commentary, just the URL.  The site wouldn't load for me.  I'd heard about Ms. Duggar in the news already, and knowing my sister, I had my suspicions of what the link was about, and commented...

Me:  The site won't load for me. Fill me in, sis?
My sister:  People are mad that the Duggars are expressing their views.

My girlfriend of over 2 years is pre-transition m2f transgender.  Trans people were there for me during the worst times in my life, when my former religion, the Mormon church, didn't give a damn.  I saw red, and (with input from my girlfriend) had to comment back.

Me:  No, sis, people are upset because Michelle Duggar is expressing opinions about something she knows next to nothing about. Ms. Duggar's claims that trans people are a threat to America is ignorant. Bigotry and hate masquerading as religious "belief" is still bigotry and hate. Trans people are marginalized enough in this world without someone like her portraying them as subhuman. The Duggars have a large audience and I can guarantee you, some of those people will take her comments as true, which is why people who know and care about trans people are so upset. The damage such erroneous statements can cause is staggering.
Be yourself.  Everyone else is already taken.   :)

Good for you (and your gf)!

There's a saying, "Your right to express yourself ends at the tip of my nose", meaning if you say something that might get me hurt (or killed), then you don't have the right to say it.

Quotefrom the link:

...In the past few days, liberal extremists have launched a full-scale attack on the Duggars, demanding that The Learning Channel cancel the Duggars' popular reality TV show.

Their reason? Michelle Duggar openly opposed an extreme 'transgender' bill in Fayetteville. The bill would have given biological males who say they are women the right to use women's bathrooms, locker rooms, showers, and other female-only facilities!

Oh, the same ol' "we're preverts!" argument.  ::)
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...
