question about winter coats

Hi. I'm Devin, 20, not on T.
I'm 5'2''ish and 85 pounds and I want to get an actual winter coat this year. I've been using hoodies for winter coats for a while now.
Lots of coats in the boys section are either too long/big on me or the sleeves are too short.
So I'm thinking about getting a womens winter coat.
Can people tell/notice if a guy is wearing a womens winter coat if it's a darker color (like dark blue or black)?

I'm thinking no if it's a more or less neutral fashion. Buy what fits and you should be fine.

Yes, based on the zipper but most people don't look at that sort of detail.

Most coats I've found are cut differently.  I do have a female thin waterproof though, it's my only female item of clothing actually, and that's just because it fits, you can't tell, and it was actually expensive, but someone left it behind.  I need to get a new one because it's got paint stains and losing the waterproofing, I just haven't got round to it.

I actually have a woman's winter coat with the zipper on the 'man side.' So it's not universal, there are exceptions. I only noticed because my sister borrowed it and commented on how she struggled with the zipper because it was on the opposite side. I said to her that men's coats have opposite zippers, but when I looked over, I realised it was the one woman's coat I have left that she was borrowing.

If it is a fitted coat that is the only way I can think of for people to know. If it's more straight/unisex, then I don't think there's usually any way for people to tell.

If I was buying one right now, I would probably go for a too-long coat over a women's coat, but I currently have a women's coat that is plain black is not too obvious.

Buy what you feel best in. IMO, when it comes to wearing clothes, the idea of passing is a concern that is secondary to self-acceptance and emotional comfort (even though it may often be above physical comfort).

I'm so happy I got my mom to order me a winter coat from Abercrombie Kids from the boys section for Christmas.
My mom is finally starting to accept me wearing guys clothes.
Acceptance is such a great feeling.

That's awesome man, I still remember how amazing it felt when my mom finally paid for my guy soap and guy underwear. Enjoy that winter coat!

Could go with a peacoat, it's really a unisex coat... only difference between male and female is which side the buttons are on and nobody really pays attention to this.... it's what I wear and works both in male mode and female mode.

Salvation army can have some nice winter coats that are almost brand new for cheap. Got mine there and it's a skiing coat.
