Really angers the hell out of me that they called her Jeffrey.

Legal name was Jeffrey. It makes sense if this is going to trial that the victim's legal name is used to prosecute.
Exceptions to the norm do not constitute a spectrum.

Call her Jeffrey in court. Papers constantly misgender us.

To be fair, I've read a couple of articles on this, and most of them gender her correctly.

Just... don't read the comment section. I made the mistake of glancing through them, hoping against hope that there would be a sliver of humanity, and once again I was disappointed. People are calling it justified defense against sexual assault. (Because, you know, being trans is sexually assaulting people.)

I saw this on huffington post and they used her preferred name for most of the article only mentioned Jeffery once or twice.

Never read the comments-  it's certainly not a representative sample.   These are the dregs of humanity.  I am picturing 40 year old unemployable losers living in their parents' basements.   Normal people don't have time to troll because they have lives.

Agreed. I never read the comments. The verbal spew of obese neckbeards just aggravates me.

On huffington post at least, I was actually pretty happy with the comments. They are an odd site. Sometimes trans articles cause a huge debate and sometimes they are fairly supportive. From what I saw even the transphobic comments were in her support. A number of them said man or women he didn't have any right to kill this person.

Usually you are right though. I made a mistake by commenting in support of a little girl named Jazz on youtube. I got bombarded with replies both positive and negative.

Been there myself on YuoTube and other places. Some of the hate I've had directed at me from Discus commenters is truly astounding.

Personally, the only places that I know are relatively safe to read comments on are places like Kotaku and Jezebel (and most other Kinja sites) as well as The Mary Sue. Then again, I'm a huge geek (She-Hulk avatar? Say it ain't so!) and these sites are geared towards more liberal thinking people. I mean, true, you occasionally get an idiot, but the sanity to idiocy ratio is much higher at those sites.

I think Jezebel was one of the things that helped me recognize that I'm trans.

I've never really looked into those sites but methinks I shall.
