Pregnant.... um ok

So went to the doctors this morning to get a referral for my neck (hurt it a few weeks ago).
The doctor comes in, sits down and says "got your test results back, congrats, you're about 6 weeks pregnant"
I said "Can't be"
Him; "thats what the test results say, I take it you weren't trying"
I said "Sorry, but I can't be pregnant, I'm 100% sure you have the wrong file"
He looks at me thinking, "umm.... ok, You're Nicole Jackson, it says you're about 6 weeks along"
This is where I broke the news to him.

It seems he grabbed the wrong file, the wrong Nicole Jackson, who was the same age as me. I told him he might need a holiday.

I don't know anything about being a doctor, but I'll say that if this happened to me, I'd be troubled. If his office doesn't have procedures to prevent this scenario, there are all sorts of awful things that could happen. This is funny, but one could imagine some horrible advice he might be giving you based on looking at someone else's test results (and not looking at yours). What if you had some disease that needed treatment right away and he looked at the other Nicole's chart and told you that you're perfectly healthy?

Yeah, and if Nicole is in the US, this is a violation of HIPAA (by accident) - now she knows confidential medical information about the other Nicole Jackson. I'd be unhappy with a doctor who brushed off such a situation; mistakes happen, but they should take it seriously.

He didn't disclose anything other than this other Nicole was pregnant, I do not know that Nicole and dare say I'll never meet her, he was also sorry.

For some reason, could be everyone is using their air-cons, but theres a lot of sick people in Melbourne, he was flat out busy and I could see why a simple mistake was made

Lmao! I also had the similar experience. I went to the hospital for my uti and also found out I had bronchitis and after I told the nurses what symptoms I've been having, they asked me questions about my medical history. Then I told them I recently had a sex change and breast operation.

30 minutes later they come in the room and asked if I was pregnant and if I recently had my period hahaha. I said no because I had a sex change then another nurse comes in later and asked if I had hysterectomy lol. I said no, I had a sex change. Then another nurse comes in and ask if I had my period or if I had any kids. Then I tell her and she's like "ooohhhhhhh ok I'm sorry but omg I did not know! You look really good!"

Lmao, pregnant? Menstrual period? That surely boosted up my ego. Lol

Not to get to far off the target here but,  when I have to go to my gyno, I typically just tell them my period ended last week,  as they forget constantly I ever had surgery,  usually right up till the Dr while reading my chart while asking when my last pap was than all of a sudden goes ohh.

Than my endo Dr starts asking me the same question and she's the one who prescribes my hormones!,  I reminded here and she says "oh that's right,  well I forget because you pass so well and look so good!!". Talk about an ego boost!! It always makes my day 

On the more medical note however,  if there hadn't been another girl with the same name/similar age and if you weren't post op I believe them telling you were prego would be a sign of testicular cancer but than again it might be something I saw on TV that makes me think this,  so don't take that note as knowledge.

A bit of a laugh but lax procedure.

Me, your name is ? Your birth date Is? Your address is? I also have their Medicare number.

People get annoyed when I ask because it it is about the third time the same questions have been asked.

But it is standard procedure, I have several  Ann Smith's. I recognise them but I may not remember what treatment they are on.

There is a bit of self issue as well, ask at the desk to check your record. You do have a responsibility to your self.

ER is crazy at best.  I have never worked in a fully functional ER, it is just so hectic. I doubt one exists.
