I'd like to hear other peoples opinions if they had a consult with Dr. Spiegel.
I'm trying to evaluate the honesty in his approach to what he saw with my face.
He was very optimistic with what could be done as well as the end result of what could be achieved.  He kept telling me I was in a really good position going into FFS and that I had nothing to worry about.  I'm wondering if this is just him trying to coax me into having the procedures done and he's sweet talking to me or he's truly being honest?  I'm wondering if he's ever told anyone that their face might be a bit more difficult to work with ever or a consult that wasn't overly overwhelming.

I did an in person with him not long ago... I liked him and his staff and office... I really liked the fact that I knew exactly what I want going in and he agreed with all of it... Ive consulted with Dr Mayer and Dr Zukowski...

He is quite a bit more expensive than either of the latter though...

I will be booking it early next year for late February :o

Judging by the pics Ive seen of you Id say thats an honest assessment ;)  You gotta make your own choices but I liked him so far :)

You will have to scroll down to the first post to view it but she was one of Dr spiegel patients.  I almost went to him myself but found a great local surgeon.

I did a consult with Dr. Spiegel... I went with Dr Z and could not be happier for myself.
I just love him and his staff.. I loved the after care and communication was beyond perfect.
Its a very personal choice so you will need to do your homework and go with who you think you feel best with..
I can just say that Dr. Z was for me a good choice.. I had FFS Dec 18th... and am on the mend.

PS at the airport the United folks kept saying we need to get this young woman to her gate.... :)

I have a friend who told me that Dr Spiegel told her that she was gorgeous and didn't need anything done.  So take that for what it's worth.

I mean I'm not sure how to take it because I don't know your friend.  Did she feel she really needed FFS and couldn't pass?

Met with Spiegel a few months ago.  I went with a friend who sat with him first, she came back with a 40k estimate for what he recommended in making her face look female.  I met with him next and his exact words were "what are you looking to have done, you truly don't need anything".  I felt automaticly at ease because this guy wasn't trying to sell me.

I told him I would like to make my chin and jaw a little more narrow and felt it looked too heavy, that I had surgery prior and felt it could be more refined.  I had my chin done with Dr Zukowski in 2004 and have not been happy with it since.  I wanted a V or heart shape but instead I was left with a heavy U looking lower face with a fat pad under my chin.  He was a waste of money and uses his humor charm and clown like manner to sell people, but his surgery skills are less than satisfactory, although he has gotten better in more recent years.

So doctor Speigal agreed it is heavy looking and he could tweak it slightly but it wasn't an issue of passing, and I asked him if he thinks I should do anything else, and he said no.  So I automaricly felt assured he was the right doctor for me and have surgery booked for late February.

I think most surgeons are hit or miss, sometimes they have great results on one person and the next comes out looking like a clown.  I choose Speigal because I found his results to be the most consistent and secondly he a hives the more natural look.

I actually agree with his assessment.  She's completely passable and has nothing to be concerned about.  I kept telling her this and she just kept saying "I know I know...I just wanna look SNATCHED!"  I can kind of see what she's saying there I guess.  What she's looking for is just a certain type of look, you know?  It's not an issue of passing.  Different strokes for different folks.

Lemons, I think you've elsewhere seen my take on Spiegel.  I had multiple consults with him beforehand (I'm that way) and what he told me varied a bit each time.  I haven't ever heard of him saying "I can't help you," and I did feel that his staff (not so much him) does try to sell services. But I also feel ALL plastic surgeons have staff that do this as they are in business.

As I've said before, I think I went into FFS with same concerns you have: that I was a difficult case and that Speigel (and the others I consulted) told me what I wanted to hear. I strongly feel that Spiegel looks at a patient individually and does feel he can help. He sort of says: "what can I do," not "what can't I do." That makes him very optimistic, and he DOES feminize as best he can with what he finds. For these reasons, I don't think he intentionally overpromises and he is being honest with you as best he can.  But we all hear what we want to (or never hear what we are actually told), and as I said before, it's important to reassure yourself you and he are talking about the same thing. That said, this doesn't mean that he can't help you and feminize your face. I think the key issue is to be sure you and he are talking about the same results and that your expectations are realistic and flow from what you have.

You are doing the right thing in consulting in person and then reflecting and questioning. All I can say is show him examples of what you want if you can. I also provided him with family photos so he could see how females in my family look. He even had those in the operating theatre when I was rolled in.

I am some two years post op from FFS with him. I had just about everything, and I needed it. I have some friends and family I don't see often, but they saw me at various times during those two years and now say that my face "settled" by about 18 months -- and that they feel it was successful.  I still find fault in my face, especially my chin and nose. At times I feel Spiegel was too conservative in what he did there. He did make small revisions to the sculpting of my nose after about a year, in an in office procedure. That helped. However, there really ARE limits to what one can do with a chin before a surgeon compromises the thickness of the bone etc.  As for the nose, I had another FFS surgeon look at it and they said they could do no more and only recommended some botox for the area above it.  I'm not in a position right now to go back to anyone.

I think it's very true that we see our own faces and bodies far more critically than others see us, and also it takes us a while to not see "old us" in those faces post op FFS.  I mention that because if you are very concerned about whether someone can help feminize your face, you may tend to dismiss any results you see for a while. I was that way.  This is why I keep saying that he will feminize you as best he can, and that may be more than you realise and may take some time to really see. But at the same time be realistic.  I have a strong featured face still, but I am told it is female and striking. I still see old me in there, but in fact, that's probably as it should be. Spiegel's goal is to help you reflect a female you, not someone else.

Think of it in terms of what you want out of the surgery and what your measurement of success will be. Be realistic in that. Explain this to him and then evaluate. No one can tell for sure how a surgery will come out, but at least you already have a decent idea of the parameters and can go in with eyes open.
