I saw a thread for transitioning in the 30s and 60s on the Transitioning page (it doesnt bother me if i mixed up thread and page) so I decided to make one for the 20s.

I am 20 so I will eventually fall into this category when I am clear for take off or clear to transition.

This is just for people who have experienced transitioning in the 20s, people who are curious about changes for 20 some year olds etc. So its pretty wide open.

I am really curious about the changes that may happen during this decade and hopefully I will be a case study for transitioning in the second decade.

Have fun!

PS: can someone point in the right direction if such a thread exists, i am curious about what other people have said in the past...
1 decade long conflict down... now it is time to celebrate

This is a good thread. Obviously people change differently and especially with age. Someone in our age group may have faster results than say someone in their 50's. Though I don't have much to attribute as I'm just getting my wings wet, I hope people can provide us with some great feedback.
Hi I'm Marty. I'm a MTF Transgender who wants nothing more than to finally let Samantha (Sammi) come out and play.

Late 20's here (29 later this year). Wow, i didn't realize how old i was getting.  This is what i've experienced.

-Slight breast growth
-Softer skin and hair
-Still have rapid body hair growth
-Semen i don't even think is produced
-Slight build up of fat on hips
-Slight increase in fat in stomach area
-Celulite ><
-Bigger ass, but not overdoing it
-Stronger reaction to male pheromones
-Slight shrinkage of penis
-Lots of facial feminizing due to fat distribution
-Full body sensitivity
-Increases nipple sensitivity
-Not much areola diameter change
-Emotions (omg the emotions i've had) :D

I am 21 years old(yesterday was my birthday!) And i have been on hrt for a few days shy of
2 months and so far ive experienced a few changes for starters my skin is much softer and
smoother and hair regrowth after shaving takes a bit longer now, even on my face suprisingly
And breast growth! My breasts started growing around the end of the first week. Ive also
Experienced a slight redistribution of fat around my face and hips/butt.(my lovely partner
Noted these) my mood has also been affected, im much calmer overall now compared to when
I started hormones, even in situation that would have angered me in the past, but i also tend to
Moodswing and the way i react to men is also changing, sometimes a man will have a particular
smell about him, but i also find myself more attracted to men when compared to before(I am
Bisexual so its nothing new)

I don't know if you will accept my input as i got to start blockers just before i turned 17 and E just before 18 and a proper dose by 19. But really it was after puberty so we are in a similar boat(I had a major issue with puberty starting way too early anyways so yea.)

I am currently 20, And in a way i regret starting early :(.Simply put I have extremely fem body with a male face... which leads to endless insults and death of a social life.

But hey if you got the face for it then I say get going as I had these changes:
-My hips expanded not fat but the bone, I remember a few month into HRT hitting everything because wide hips are just weird when your not used to them.
-I have breasts in a middle tanner with decent size i guess.
-My body hair still exists but is thinner, not female thin but like a middle point between male and female.
-The feet, height and hands department is unchanged because its bone. Hormones don't affect that no matter what people claim(at most you'll lose fat which will cause tiny changes).
-I hold fat like its going out of fashion.. pr-hrt I couldn't gain a kg, this is a horrible side effect.
-Mentally I am stable but that first HRT year is brutal.

I guess that's all I can think about.
Awww no my little kitten gif site is gone :( sad.

2 Febuary 2011/13 June 2011 hrt began

Started hrt at 21 (March 2012) like a few months before my 22nd bday, currently 24 and 34 months on hrt.
I've been on an anti-androgen, estradiol and progesterone since the start.
In July 2014 I switched from pills to injections for my estrogen, still on pills for P and the AA

So far my physical changes have been:

Hair:

My body hair changed drastically in the course of two years and still seeing changes. My arm hair has become super fine and barely noticeable. I still have hair on my back and butt lol and some on my nipples but a lot of those hairs are pretty fine and sparse. The hairs aren't very dark and some are but I have hairy genetics so its only to be expected. My pubic hair in the center of my testes has pretty much disappeared., which is really interesting lol cause thats where my vagina would be. So basically the pubic hair is an upside down triangle like any other cis women's pattern. My leg hair is pretty fine too and I can go about a week without shaving before it becomes noticeable. It takes about 3 days for the stubble to really show and feel. Prehrt my body hair was pretty frustrating to get rid of cause it would grow back fast.

I didn't start laser till December of 2013, so I was on hrt for about a year and a half before I started it. I had a really bad beard shadow. Hrt did make it less dense and changed into this blue shade, regardless I would still have to shave every day. Now after about 8 sessions of laser, I only shave about every 3 days and the hairs aren't even noticeable unless I go like 2 weeks without shaving. My facial hair is like 95% cleared. My skin type and dark hair is ideal for laser so I've been seeing awesome results.  I do have a few stubborn areas left but I'm guessing because my T levels are so low the regrowth has been minimal. The upper lip shadow has been lightened a lot but because of my spanish background I still have a slight shadow there even though most of the hairs are completely gone. Its like cis woman upper lip shadow now. Its not that big of deal since I'm still getting laser done and eventually electrolysis once all the hairs turn white. So yeah the rest of my face has no shadow except for that area mainly.

I had a typical m shaped hair line going into hrt and I'm happy to say that all of the hair that I was losing has come back fully. That took about 2 and half years for it to fully grow back. Its finally past the baby hair stage and its getting thicker. My head hair has become much more manageable and softer as time went on in comparison to pre-hrt when it was coarse and difficult to control. My hair has grown past my boobs so I'm pretty happy with it(mermaid hair lol!). I plan on growing it to about butt level  I think that sums up my hair changes.

Fat Redistribution:
Weight prehrt:120lbs Height: 5'10
Current weight :142

It's been a gradual process, like I didn't really start seeing big changes till about a year in or so and after about 2 years I could see a big difference finally. I started hrt at a really low weight. I had always been naturally thin. Prehrt I could never gain weight without doing extreme dieting and weight training. Since starting hrt I've been slowly gaining weight and I've been eating as much as I can every day. Due to genetics mostly, a lot of the fat goes to the right areas like my hips, thighs and a bit to my boobs. I have a lot of hip but not a lot in the bust. My overall body shape is pear shaped now before I was just like a stick box lol.  My mom's and sister are pear shaped too. I do have fat in my belly and a lot accumulates there but at the same time it often levels out cause of my high metabolism. The fat surrounding my mons pubis has significantly changed like its much more thicker, its pretty much like cis women's area. I have that tummy pouch like cis women do too. My face has gotten a lot more fuller. My cheeks used to be very gaunt and skinny. Now they're pretty filled in and its changed my face dramatically imo. Looking at old pics prehrt, it looks like I had ffs cause hrt has rounded out all the hard rigid features I had before.

Just measured myself, measurements are 36-27-39. Dug up one of my old measurements at 1 year and 8 months hrt. I was 36-29-40. Interesting to see, I was about 145 for awhile but dropped back to 138 a few months ago and just recently managed to put on some lbs on again. If I can find my prehrt and earlier hrt measurements I'll post them. I think its good to keep track of your measurements to see the minimal changes that occur over time.

Boobs! (my favorite topic lol)

I don't come from a family that's super busty. My mom for the longest time was an a cup or less until she had her pregnancies and even then she only reached a b cup. So anyways I'm a full A cup or a small b. I go between a 32b, 34a and or possibly a 30b/32a (which I haven't tried yet) My underbust measures at 29 so those are the band sizes I go between. As of right now I think I need to get rid of my 34a bras cause the straps fall off all of the time even when they're at their tightest and the band seems a lot looser now ever since my back has became smaller, so 32b right now feels pretty comfortable. However 32b is a sister size to a 34a so it has the same cup volume.

In terms of breast maturity, that's whats changed for me the most. My bust measurement hasn't really changed but the areolas and shape have changed dramatically since I started hormones. I'm past the teenage boob stage,  basically 2 and 3 tanner stages. The first breast bud has settled in and rounded out. I'm at the stage where the 2nd mound appears and so they're in this new phase of growth. That second mound appeared around the time I started injections. My areola color started at a light brown/pink shade and now they're a dark brown and they're at their darkest on the first few days after my injection. My right breast seems to be maturing faster than my left but my left seems to be fuller than my right, its weird lol, hooray asymmetry!

Skin:

My skin is like super baby soft in comparison to before. Thanks to spiro though and my naturally dry skin, its a constant battle to keep my skin moisturized and hydrated. Despite that its pretty healthy and I get positive comments on it all the time. I do get ingrown hairs a lot more often but its unavoidable since I have curly hair. I also get pimples in the oddest places lolol, rarely on my face though so I guess thats good. That pretty much sums that up.

To add; my skin tone overall did lighten. Before I had an olive tan color to my skin, now its almost white all over except for a few areas.

Mental Changes:

My dysphoria was almost completely gone only after a few months of hrt. I had it pretty bad prehrt when it came to my body. I couldn't stand it, I was just disgusted with myself. Its been a bit of a roller coaster I have to admit. Its like a lot of things I had suppressed for so long just started unraveling steadily. So it was pretty tough dealing with life and that in the first year. I'm alright now and feel the best I've ever been but its been a long road since starting hrt regarding my mental state. I've always been emotional but starting estrogen kind of put me into overdrive for a bit. I still cry a lot but thats cause I just can't help it and I don't like bottling up my emotions at all, not that I could if I wanted to at this point. When I do cry its not always about something bad, I have a lot of happy crying episodes lol. I've come to understand that's just me. I'm really happy I've gotten my old self back because this was the way I was pre-puberty, like as a kid I was really happy go lucky and always upfront about my emotions. When testosterone started being produced it instantly sent me into a depression and I just became closed off. I was only about 13 back then too when it started.

Genital/Sexual Changes:

Erections: I can still achieve them but it can be very painful. The testes have shrunken a lot. It takes me about 15-30mins to reach a full orgasm but before I get to the big O, I have a lot of mini orgasms and sometimes those are enough so I don't always go all the way. TMI Another interesting occurrence is that I get more "wet" the closer I get to the full orgasm, like it gets pretty lubricated. Before on hrt, orgasms were very unsatisfying and I always felt so weird being sexual. I mean I was a virgin till I met my gf back in November of last year. So I never had sex prehrt. Idk how to describe it though, it was like a strange disconnect with myself. Nowadays its a lot of fun despite the physical pain I get from erections. Sometimes the pain does become so bad that I have to stop sex all together while I'm with my gf, like we have to take a lot of mini breaks just because of that issue. Its pretty frustrating and makes me not want to have sex at all sometimes. I can't wait till I have bottom surgery.

My attraction for women only became a lot stronger than before. My attraction for men also increased but its nowhere near the same level that it is for women. So I haven't tried a dating a guy, maybe at some point after I'm postop I might.

I've been rediscovering my body all over again and can now have small orgasms from stimulation of certain areas like my breasts and neck. Its been fascinating discovering these new erogenous zones.

Libido wise, I can go months without having sex or an orgasm. I no longer get spontaneous erections. My sex drive is like average I guess. I can get turned on if I feel like it, so I have complete control over it.

Other Changes:

My hip bone widened a few months into hrt and the pelvic tilt became even more dramatic than before. I've always had a feminine body but yeah I noticed the change because of the increase in my hip measurement by the third month of hrt. I hadn't gained any weight at that point yet. So it was definitely the bone changing. I've seen other girls around my age or younger report this too.

It was pretty cool when I realized that my knees changed inward like how other women have them. I only noticed that was because I was sitting on the sand with my friend and my legs matched her legs, I was like omg no way! It was an interesting moment

My eyes also changed, they became very female-ish lol idk how to it describe it. They just look bigger I guess dunno what to call it. My eyes have definitely become my favorite feature and my lips became more plump too.

My scent around my genitals has changed to that of how a cis woman smells down there, its the best way to describe it. My overall body scent is sort of sweet/neutral like no smell at all sometimes but if its really hot like 95 degrees or hotter, I get this onion like scent from my arm pits. I don't really sweat anymore, its more like I become a bit moist all around. If I do end up sweating its usually in my bra, around my boobs and around my thighs if I'm wearing pants. Also I get discharge down there too.

I think that sums up everything up until this point. I'll continue to update my changes using this thread. So yeah its been a long journey and I'am quite happy with all of my changes.

Seems like you are one of the luckiest transitioners, huh? :)

Did the old portion of your hair stay coarse so that you had to cut it to make all of the hair soft and managable?

Does everyone experience this change in hair texture? And because of that, should one expect to want to cut their hair or shave some time during their transition?

I never really cut the old portion. I had begun growing out my hair about two years prior to starting hrt. It was constantly tangled and just overall messy. Estrogen helped a lot with making it softer but its not the main reason why it became easier to manage. I educated myself on my hair type and proper hair care so that's really what made the biggest difference. If your hair is severely damaged then its probably a good idea to start from scratch for new healthy hair. If its not too bad then you can recover it and transition it to healthy hair, which is what I did.

Didn't see your first comment so I edited my post:

Yeah I'm most definitely one of the really lucky ones either that or my chromosomes are xx or something cause its pretty miraculous all of the changes I've had I think. I went into hrt thinking I needed ffs and body sculpting surgery, just to have the body I wanted. I had absolutely 0 expectations of hrt going in, I just didn't want to feel severely depressed over my body anymore. My endo did say I had low testosterone levels after my first blood test and my body never fully masculinzed during puberty either so idk I continue to suspect that I might be intersexed since my body proportions are the same with cis women my height and weight. Either way I don't really care to take the karyotype test to find out since I'm healthy and haven't had any serious complications so knowing wouldn't make a difference anyways. I' am curious about my wide hips though cause I read through another thread of a trans woman from a different site who always had wide hips and turned out after an mri (I think was the test) of that region that she had undeveloped ovaries or something. I wonder if that might be my situation, ahh curiosity

I mean I am 29 started a proper dose of hormones at 28 messed a bit with less than reputable things before that....

I am 11months on hormones at the moment, and here is basically what has changed:

Skin is softer, drier, seems thinner almost I get cuts and bruises a bit easier now. Also freckles came back in a really big way for me, my skin also seems a shade lighter at a glance.

Hair seems more brittle and dry, still love my hair though. My hairline has changed a bit too.

I wear a 38C and I would say my breast development has been better than expected, my aeriola have enlarged as well, though it doesn't really feel they have enlarged as much as they should have for my breast size. Stretch marks are now a thing though, both of my breasts have them. Also pain, they hurt alot.

Sexually, there isn't an ejaculate produced, it takes me even more foreplay (it always took a lot) to get there. My sexual feelings have strengthened and narrowed, I am more interested in romance with another woman than I ever was preHRT. I seem to have more erogenous zones and while it takes a long time to get to climax the climaxes are usually much more rewarding than preHRT.

I have less energy and find it easier to put on weight, my muscle mass was already small but decreased a fair bit. My fat in the face redistributed quickly and slowly it is happening with the rest of my body but not at a pace I enjoy.

Emotionally I am pretty much the same, my emotions might be slightly more intense but i never had issues expressing my emotions.

I am pretty sure I need more sleep but that could be because I am old now :(

I hit 20 last september, and told my GP about it I think nearly 2 years ago...

What happened was that I was referred to a psychiatrist, who analyzed my condition, but then after visiting my GP, only then realized that they have sent a copy of the analysis to me only, which was meant to be sent to the GP as well.

Because it took me so long to find out about this, my referral wasn't sent until April in 2014, and then I only got a letter to book an appointment with the Gender Identity Clinic in December. I sent my letter ASAP and then after phoning them, old me I won't be able to get an appointment until April 2015...

I really hope I do start soon, I don't know why they're taking so long with everything.
