QuoteFor anyone whom word hasn't spread to or who hasn't figured it out yet: I am transgender. Much of my 2014 has been spent medically transitioning from male to female. Next week I will be taking the next step legally changing my name. Therefore, I ask that you please attempt to erase the name Mark from your mind and instead refer to me by Sarah and she/her/hers pronouns.
If you have any questions on what this means, I am more than willing to answer them. I also ask that you come directly to me with questions instead of piling a bunch of questions that they can't answer onto my parents.
Lastly, I would like to thank everyone I came out to previously, especially the earlier ones 1.5-2 years ago. Your support made the world a far less scary place to someone who spent most of her life trying to keep a secret. I am seriously one of the luckiest transgirls in the world to have the friends that I do.
So on to 2015, which is sure to be the most awkward year of my life, but hopefully also the happiest :-)
I posted this on NYE. I had been out to everyone important to be by this point, this was mostly breaking news to extended family, old acquaintances, and former shipmates. It was universally well received, and I received a lot of very heartwarming messages - especially from those I served in the Navy with.
