Freckles and moustache shadow?

Hi hi, I'm new here.  I've been experiencing genderfluidity for a year or so, and I'm finally trying to dress to match my mood because the disphoria is killing me.

My moustache is very thick, and I have trouble getting a close shave without tearing the ->-bleeped-<- out of my stupidly sensitive skin.  I guess the normal thing to do is put down some foundation... but I've got lots of dark freckles, so I really don't want to wear a bunch of foundation all over my face.  But maybe just my lip?  Totally backfires, and I get an antimoustache which is even more obvious than the shadow ever is!  Gah!

What's a girl to do?  I'm afraid to use nair 'cause my skin is so sensitive (double-damned, I'm redheaded & freckled), and electrolysis is a huge step at this point.

Hey Sparrow

Welcome to Susan's  :)  Great to have you here - looking forward to seeing you around the forum.

Not sure I can help you with your specific problem - I was fortunate enough to have a fairly light beard which didn't show up after a shave and make-up applied.... and fortunately after electro it is almost all gone now. There might be an appropriate make-up solution that would help but you may need to consult with someone more versed in those procedures.

Please check out the following links for site rules, helpful tips and other info...

Hmm, red hair and freckles.

Anyway, welcome to Susan's.

Nair on your face is a pretty bad idea. It would cause quite an uncomfortable chemical burn. Have you ever checked into those little home epilators? I can't imagine it being much less painful however.

You might try some orange lipstick.
According to the color wheel, orange cancels out blueish colours...
then apply some light foundation, or another product to cover...
I'd suggest organic products because of less chemicals inside...

and you might try different shaving methods... some electric razors give a clean shave, too, you might look up some customer experiences...

Before I had electrolysis done I used to pull all my mustache hair out with tweezers, but you have to be pretty brave and determined to do that.

Definitely don't use Nair or similar products on your face because it will burn your skin.  How do I know? - I tried it once and never did it again  :'(

Yeah, don't use nair, I bought some that was supposed to be for the mustache and beard areas.  It gave me a horribly ugly chemical burn that hurt like the dickens for a whole week.  Have you tried threading? Alot of ladies use it for their eyebrows, although I don't see why it wouldn't work for facial hair.

A high-quality, multi-blade razor such as Mach 3 would be my suggestion for that pesky mustache.

Mach 3 does nothing for mine. My thick mustache grows at Mach 7 so Mach 3 can't keep up. Laser is at the speed of light so it works.

In all seriousness short of laser or electrolysis I would recommend the multi blade razors but also a good shaving cream, and also realistic expectations. Without hair removal that pesky shadow is still there unfortunately. :(

Hi everybody, thanks for your responses!

Sounds like I'm in for pain or discomfort no matter what I do, so I should just try to minimize scarring to my face and be patient 'til I'm committed enough to deal with it permanently.  I've tried multiblade razors... trouble is, my facial hair has developed extremely slowly and as a male, I never cared about my appearance* so just never learned how to shave.  So in my experience, a triple razor just means triple cuts on my face.  I'm using an electric razor now 'cause at least I don't get razor burn... probably time for a new one, though, this thing's decrepit.  It leaves my face feeling like sandpaper, but that's better than bloody right?

I'll certainly try a different color of lipstick though... I'd never even think to try orange!

* Really, that fact alone delayed acceptance of my gender identity more than anything.  Eventually I get exhausted by the effort I need to feel feminine, and the man comes back.

Before you get another electric shaver, you might look up a few reviews from customers. There are some which give a quite good shave.
Or you might thoroughly clean your old one... usually the manual tells if the head can be taken off and cleaned. A manual might be available via download, if its not available.

I removed most of my mustache by using Tria home laser system.

I no longer shave my face, and just pluck a few fine hairs I see in one or two weeks.
I do not remember when I shaved for the last time. Probably 4 years ago.

Just do it.

I recently read of a scientific study in mice that showed that hair plucking can actually signal surrounding hair roots to grow. One plucked hair can result in something like five new hairs growing in. They actually think it may lead to useful treatments for head hair loss. It may turn out that plucking isn't quite so great for chins, though.

I also heard the news. I was skeptical because no mice is bald while human heads can be bald.

I thoroughly shave with an electric shaver and top it off with a multi blade razor, I then use a mousse foundation and powder which removes all traces of the dreaded shadow!  :)
