Came out to sister *Trigger warning?*

This was an odd conversation. We're both ex-military (US Army), and both have that jaded quality to any conversation bordering on serious topics.

Short version, she's ok with my transition. She even told me she has trans friends, and thought something "was up with me" when she came to visit (Her words: "If those get bigger than mine, I'll be pissed.")

Me, her, and my mom (who also knows, and is ok with it), got my dad (who does not know) to watch that show "Black Sails". He broke out the slurs before the end of episode two. I left to get beer when he used a slur I'd prefer not to repeat.

I may not be able to tell him.

Any ideas on breaking the news to this man that his only "son" is his third daughter? Even he is starting to ask questions about my facial changes.

For your own sanity, might be better to tell your dad via a note rather than in person to hear the  crazy stuff he'd say. Here's a sample note:

Dad, there's something I need to share with you. I'm sure you've heard a bit about transgender people. These are people who were born with a brain that's wired to be a different gender from the the body sex they were born to. It can be very difficult for those folks: There's no way to cure them or make it so they are not transgender, and the stress from trying to pretend is crushing. A lot of transgender people who ignore it suffer severe anxiety and depression.

I need to tell you I'm transgender, and I can no longer ignore or pretend. I need to address this, and since you are someone who cares about me, I thought you should know. I am, and have always been, female and I'm working on how I can live in a way that is true to that fact.  I'm more than willing to answer any respectful questions you might have.

Do you think this sort of thing would help?

I'm looking at moving soon, so that may be the best time to use something like that, Suzi. Then again, I was positive my mom would react poorly, and she's great!

As for the banking idea, Nikki, that ship's sailed by now.
